poses no threat to the United States, Russia said Tuesday, rebuffing a key argument of President Barack Obama on whether to go ahead with a European missile shield bitterly opposed by Moscow.
Former president George W. Bush had infuriated Russia by striking a deal to install 10 missile interceptors in Poland and related radar stations in the Czech Republic, saying they were needed to counter "rogue states" such as Iran.
The Obama administration says it is reviewing the shield project, studying whether it is militarily justified and cost effective.
But Sergei Kislyak, the Russian ambassador to the United States, said that the Iran threat was a myth.
"I don't see any threat to the United States coming from Iran anytime soon," Kislyak told a conference of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
He said the shield in the former Soviet bloc nations also failed to cover all of the NATO alliance.
"It didn't accomplish a single stated goal that we were told was the reason to deploy. If that was the case, that means there was something else behind this," Kislyak said.
Western nations widely suspect that Iran is developing nuclear weapons, although Obama has also reached out to try to repair relations with the Islamic republic.

They are looking at Odumbo and saying, “These are not the droids you’re looking for.”
Yes, that’s just what we need: Russia telling us who our threat are or aren’t. And Obama will just lap it up.
A Look at Iran

Rooskies are lying through their teeth. They know the only reason why Iran doesn’t have Washington in its sights right now is because it is obsessed with Israel.
The time to start putting up a shield is not when we see a mushroom cloud over Tel Aviv.
The Soviets, ummm, I mean the Russians have someone that they can “work with.” His name is Barack H. Obama. Code: He’s a pushover.
So where is our wise GOP on this?

I find it fascinating that this article appears the same day as the article in which Russia claims Iran is no threat to the UNited States in fact, that article follows this one on the News/Activism Forum of FR...
Why do I question this? Why are we being told that those powers in the Axis of Evil are no longer to be considered a threat? I find that FAR too convenient for the agenda of President Obama.
If NK has sold their technology to Syria, helping them build a Nuke Plant (which Israel took out last year), they ARE a threat. If the NK can launch a missile/Rocket which overflies Japan and certainly CAN reach at least Alaska, and probably the West Coast, they ARE a threat.
AND, if Iran has missiles that can reach Tel-Aviv and Western Europe, then THEY are a threat. If they have the capability to shut down the Strait of Hormuz (and they do w/Russian built Nuke Subs)then they certainly ARE a threat.
This is Obama propaganda to take our eyes off that very REAL problem and convince us to do his bidding here at home, spending Billions diverted from legitimate defense expenses to his Socialist pipe-dreams....
Dont buy it, or we could find ourselves in a mess in several places around the world far worse than the ones were in now.
