Too bad he didn’t get a puppy from the pound.

That would be good for the copycats to emulate.

Just knowing that Kennedy and Obama have these dogs is enough to make me not want one!

This is a legitimate concern on the part of responsible breeders. Any time a breed is highlighted, especially on TV or in a movie ... this can happen. The end result is puppy mills start churning out the breed ‘du jour’ with no regard to health issues or inbreeding.

I thought it a bit ironic that Ted Kennedy would provide 0-bama with a Portuguese Water Dog.

On a related note, Mary Jo Kopechne was unavailable for comment.

SO how come we never heard from concern with Barney and Miss Beasley’s breeders? Do you think cinservative dog breeders have more sence?

I have no problem with the 0bamas getting a pedigreed dog, from a breeder. After all, this is the White House we are talking about and we shouldn’t put anyone in there who doesn’t have his papers.

"..the first family's dog choice.."

Notice that the choice of pooch came before their choice of church.

Did they even attend Easter services? I have not heard or seen any pictures of them going to church, but heck yea, they've got their dog!

I can just see all the Dim wimmin and their beta male helpers being walked by collective “PWD,” with not the first clue as to the proper training and handling of a dog, all with their weird plastic belts cinched up around their ribcages, getting their mismatched yet expensive Michelle-original frumpware all mussed. She explodes into an expletive-riddled tirade; he merely sniffles dejectedly. And, off to wonderful, caring PETA goes the PWD.

If it weren’t for the poor dogs, who didn’t deserve this, it would be hilarious.

When Uno won at Westminster two February’s ago we(beagle breeders) were innundated with requests for a Beagle that looked just like Uno.
I hope they keep the Portugeese WD breeder’s name a seceret for their sake. The breeder that sold Biden their German Sheppard Dog has been harrassed by all the PETA types and has even received death threats.

< lib "logic" > Everyone hated President Bush, so the only thing Scotties had to worry about were people swerving out their way to hit them just because it was the official dog of the President. Just look at the bad reputation black cats had solely because the Bush's cohabited with India. < /lib "logic">

Too bad he didn’t get a puppy from the pound.

I was an "Either/Or" situation. IOW's the Obama's could have their breed of choice (PWD) from a private breeder, OR they could get another breed (or a mixed breed) from an animal shelter. Because PWD's are relatively rare, you aren't likely to find one in a shelter.

It was reported that as part of the adoption, the Obama's were going to make some sort of donation to an animal shelter. I think that a good way to solve their dilema. I don't have much time for Barak, but I have to give him his props for this one.

Puppy mills exist for one reason, they are insanely profitable.

I could make more money with 5 bitches and a stud than I could with 50 brood cows and a bull. And do it on 1 acre instead of 100.

I don’t breed dogs, and went broke on cattle.

Still, most of these “new dogs” will be replacing a type affectionately known by their owners as “Pit Bull”.
