When I was in the Air Force they beat it into our heads that we could go to Leavenworth for taking home a pen let alone anything else.
One day as a young Airmen working on some equipment I put a socket and wrench into my pocket so I wouldn’t lose it and forgot it was there. I absolutely panicked when I got home and realized that I had taken the tool off base.
I immediately brought it back to the base and reported it to my NCOIC who appreciated my integrity and then told me I could borrow the tools anytime as long as I checked them out. I told him thanks but I had my own.
