Religious right defends Rudy
POLITICO ^ | Apr 21, 2009 | By KENNETH P. VOGEL

The religious right, which vehemently opposed Rudy Giuliani’s 2008 bid for the Republican presidential nomination, is rallying to the former New York mayor’s defense against attacks from gay rights groups.

The skirmish began when Giuliani in an interview with the New York Post opposed New York Gov. David Paterson's proposed gay marriage bill and asserted it would spark a backlash against Democrats. ....[S]ocial conservatives are applauding him for his stance on an issue over which they have often been at odds with him.

Even Tony Perkins, president of the influential Family Research Council and an outspoken critic of Giuliani’s social views, commended his recent comments — albeit in a slightly backhanded manner.

SNIP

In fact, Giuliani has opposed same-sex marriage since at least his aborted 2000 Senate run against Hillary Clinton. But he hasn’t spotlighted the issue or his other social views, many of which are far to the left of the Republican activists who play a major role in deciding early presidential nominating contests.

He can have NY but he has no business near the White House. We got the candidate we did by not voting for the people who would stand for values which this country desperately needs. Instead, we got a candidate who was just as bad as the dem one. People stayed home by the droves because they did not want to vote for him. I held my nose and voted for Sarah. We do not need a liberal running the Republican party. Just look where that got us. So what did President Reagan's family life have to do with his running the country? We have someone now who the MSM tries to show as the perfect couple but neither has the sense God gave a goose.

BTW, watch your language. I was not brought up hearing or seeing words like that and I do not intend to start at my age.

Something else, why do you support the 2 most liberal Republicans? They did not win the first go around and I doubt if very many people will support them this next time. I have no idea who the person will be for the next election but it had better be someone with credentials that will bring the conservatives back to the party and not all of these RINOs.

People with your “everybody is a RINO but me” approach are a big part of the problem. If you don’t get Rudy in New York, you get a Democrat. That’s just a fact sir. When are some folks going to get that through their heads?

Weak debating trick.

You don't like criticism from somebody, and then all of a sudden, they are "everybody is a RINO but me"

Try proving your accusation.

BTW, my comments were not about Rudy in New York, but Rudy as POTUS.

Rudy is a perfect fit for the brain-dead liberals in New York.

What he is not, is a conservative. His record proves this and has been proven ad naseum here on FreeRepublic with facts about his own record.

Oh, and BTW, in case you forgot, this web-site is about Conservatism, not about the GOP unless the two intersect.

Cracks me up. Reagan was divorced. Had two screwed up kids, one a homo, another a drug addict loon. Nancy believed in Astrology and other stupid crap. Reagan couldn’t be elected today if what many posts here say. His two “normal” kids were adopted.

What does any of that have to do with the differences between the positions on the issues by Reagan and Rudy?

That is what conservative Christians are concerned about.

You're putting up a straw-man.

I’d rather have any of them than what we have now. If Huckabee were in the General (as McCain was) I would have voted for him. At least I agree with some of what they say/do (same for McCain and Romney). I don’t agree with anything Obama wants to do, is doing.

We even looked into Ron Paul because my husband talked to someone who came to our door, gave him handouts/dvd or cd, etc. He spent an hour or more discussing issues. We agreed with him on some things. Couldn’t agree with him on the WOT/Iraq, etc.

Watch my language? Gonna check it now because I don’t know what you mean.

How do I support the two most liberal republicans?

I campaigned for Santorum for goodness sakes. And I don’t even live in PA anymore!
