Police balk at immigration push
Salt Lake Tribune ^ | 4-22-09 | Sheena Mcfarland

Don't expect police officers in Utah's 10 largest cities or anywhere in the Salt Lake Valley to be asking about your citizenship status anytime soon.

Virtually across the board, police agencies are joining Salt Lake City and lining up against cross-deputizing their officers -- the only optional provision in the state's comprehensive immigration law that takes effect July 1 -- citing budget constraints and fears that enforcing federal immigration laws would inhibit their ability to protect residents.

Why would an illegal alien want to be in Utah anyway? From what I hear, it's hard to get cervesa and when you can it's 3.2%.

PC police chiefs at their finest. One wonders, what other laws do they decline to enforce?

Right...

Enforcing immigration laws won't help the average citizen eh?

What BS.

Much of the crime in the west is caused by illegals taking and doing whatever they like. They steal guardrails off highways to sell the metal. They steal copper wire off wherever they find it to sell the metal. They strip the insides of houses to sell the pieces. All of which costs a fortune to repair while rendering a few bucks for the pillager. There are endless examples of the costs from health care, educating their children to crime and incarcerating them for it.

I’m down here in St. George. And I’ve had enough. I’m tired of being behind folks in the grocery store paying their bills with cards issued by this state.

I am tired of being taunted by illegals who chirp how they got “us” to pay their maternity bills. They think they’re cool!

I was told, when I was laid off, that I would be replaced (seasonally) with people who knew less than I did, with less of a background than I had, with people making minimum wage and no benefits.

I intend to leave this state.

Seems to me the Police in Utah, the focus of this article being Utah are consistant in their refusal to engage the illegal immigration matter. There have been previous articles.

It seems to me also that for there to be such consensus there must be a forum in which the Utah Police obtain their direction for such unity to exist. I’ve not read about that.

IMO the Fed IS responsible for the condition of our Immigration situation today, and it is the responsibility of the Fed to clean up what they screwed up, however it is to the point now that to do so involves even more invasion by the Fed into State’s territory.

Wondering if that is by design.

Huntsman loves the illegals; good for business.

LDS loves the illegals, good for recruitment into the “family.”

LDS people are among the nicest human beings I’ve ever met. That said, I’m getting out of here.

I hate hearing that you have to put up with that, so far from the border, I expect it here but not there.
