In Defense of West Point: A Cadet Responds to Thomas Ricks
The New Ledger ^ | April 22nd, 2009 | Tianyi Xin

West Point is a crucible that molds us into leaders of character. We cadets forfeit free time and sleep to endure pressures that most college students would never put up with because we know the payoff after graduation is something that can’t be calculated in dollars—a solid education that will prepare us to lead our nation’s sons and daughters into harm’s way. Douglas MacArthur once noted that “in war there is no substitute for victory.” In America there is no substitute for West Point.

Tianyi Xin is a cadet at West Point where she double majors in International Relations and Law. She will graduate in May 2011.

I wonder what Sen. Webb has to say about Ricks’ article ... or is Author Webb that far gone?

So long as we have young people like Tianyi Xin ready to move into leadership, there is still hope for this country. The article is better written than the Post article it answers.

The best part about the article is the last line.

She writes, “Just ask the hero of Mr. Ricks’ most recent book — David Petraeus, class of 1974 West Point graduate.”

In Ricks’ article you’ll notice that he conveniently forgets to mention that the hero of his new book, Petraeus, is a West Point grad.

What a wonderful way it was how she didn’t come right out and say, Ricks, “You unprincipled weasel.” it but instead... well.. how do you spell, “b*tch slapped!!!”

Ricks proposed sending officers instead through ROTC.

I think the real reason Ricks and others want West Point closed is so the future military leadership will have been put through the PC indoctrination farms that are America’s “elite” universities, where they will be a distinct minority among the other students, vs. having their own University (and culture) at West Point.
