Obama skates while Right fumes (barf)

A Democratic president thrills a French audience by telling it that America has been “arrogant.” He brushes aside 50 years of anti-communist orthodoxy by relaxing restrictions against Fidel Castro’s Cuba. He directs his attorney general to ease a crackdown on medical marijuana and even plays host to the Grateful Dead in the Oval Office.

Several times a month in his young presidency, Barack Obama has done things that cause conservatives to bray, using the phrase once invoked by Bob Dole, “Where’s the outrage?!”

The outrage is definitely there, in certain precincts of Republican politics. What’s notable, however, is that it mostly has stayed there — with little or no effect on Obama.

He has been blithely crossing ideological red lines and dancing on cultural third rails — the kinds of gestures that would have scorched an earlier generation of Democrats — with seeming impunity. Obama’s foes, and even some of his allies, are a bit mystified.

Part of the answer is generational. Many hot-button liberal issues — decades-long obsessions for many baby boomers — have cooled a lot since the last time a Democrat occupied the White House.

And part of it is that the highest-profile Republican messengers these days are a deeply unpopular former vice president and a similarly polarizing former House speaker — both of whose days in the sun would seem to be behind them.

“The fact is, the world has changed,” said Charlie Cook, who has carefully studied election results for decades. “Whether it was [Bill] Clinton, [Al] Gore or [John] Kerry, they were all spooked by ghosts. But Obama just isn’t. If you haven’t been around for decades hearing the ghost stories, then going in the big, dark house isn’t as scary.”

Obama is untouchable. There is nothing he can do to turn any segment of the public against him - beyond conservatives.

These are the guys who are going to start something really nasty and complain about the other side when they can’t snap their fingers and turn it off. Remember the names.

Not so sure he's untouchable.

Despite the messianic treatment of the press, 34% of the public is strongly against what he's doing.

If a real crisis hits, I think that number goes up fast.

Right. We're all "mystified" why the mainstream media hasn't called Obama on his lies and duplicity.

Wait until the Taliban over-runs Pakistan and essentially has control of the nuclear weapons. It didn’t happen on Bush’s watch....but it looks like it is about to happen on Obama’s. That might tend to focus the pea size brains of liberals in this country very fast.

Honestly, I doubt it. Today's liberal is totally disconnected with reality.

His undoing will be the economy, he owns it since the emergency stimuli was passed.

Look for a serious discussion this summer of another direct payment to tax payers, and it will be a big one!!

It is not that difficult to know what do/not do economically during a bad recession. Obamabi has made every wrong turn on this issue and in 18 months when the mid turn elections come around it will be a referendum on those policies. Americans are in no mood to tolerate this nonsense.

When the real crisis hits, even more people will be touched by it. The question is whether Obama will be held responsible for it, but denial and apathy is on his side.

When our enemies graphically demonstrate that they cannot be reasoned or negotiated with, he will no longer be so popular.

True, because Pakistan was a model of stability and absolutely no risk at all until like 4 months ago . . . I’m pretty sure Pakistan has been in a pretty steady state of gradual collapse since like 2005 or so

A little defensive there? The point is that is did not collapsed on Bush’s watch. Obama will own the problem if it happens. A Q Kahn wasn’t released on Bush’s watch either....but they let him go within hours of Obama’s swearing in. Our enemies know a weak horse when they see one and Obama is as weak as they come.

Not really defensive, but it’s like people blaming the tech bubble bursting on GWB. Pakistan has basically had no control over increasingly large swaths of the country for the past several years. Their ISI either can’t or isn’t willing to stop funding any random terrorist group that hates India, and we sat there and watched (and gave them money) just because we needed them for afghanistan.

It will be Obama’s fault if the Taliban overthrows the government in Pakistan. Obama has broadcast his weakness all over the planet since he was elected. Wonder if Obama has had those talks with the so called ‘moderate Taliban’ yet? Doesn’t seem to be working out so good..does it? LOL

I think this whole trumped up torture B.S. is going to backfire on zero and the rats. Cheney is no wuss. Let them bring it on. They are messing with our national security now and that is not going to go over well

This is still his honeymoon period. But, sure, it's a different country than it was in 1993.

Clinton was seen as a usurper who broke up the Reagan era with the help of Ross Perot. He was the Sixties baby boomer who put an end to years of WWII veterans at the top and brought the hippie generation to power.

Today the Reagan era is over and it won't be back any time soon. Obama replaced a very unpopular President and bumped the 60s generation out of the White House.

He's worse than what came before, but people don't see a good conservative alternative available, as they did when Reagan was alive. That may be awful, but right now it looks like the truth.
