Health Nominee Veto Sickening

PRESS RELEASE

April 23, 2009

Statement by Mary Kay Culp, Executive Director, Kansans for Life: 913-406-4446

HEALTH NOMINEE VETO SICKENING

SHORT VERSION

If this confirmation goes forward, George Tiller will have a friend, not only in the highest office in Kansas as he likes to brag, but heading the highest health office in the land, and knowing what we know, we think that ought to make every American sick.

Governor Sebelius, like her friend Napolitano, is extremely liberal, but especially so on late-term abortion, end of life issues and cloning.

As always her reasons sound high-minded, but are in fact empty claims. This bill was thoughtfully drafted as a mirror image of the federal ban upheld in the April 2007 U.S. Supreme Court/Gonzales v Carhart/ decision. Sebelius reference to the 1997 Sixth circuit decision is outdated, and the "brain-suction" law examined by that appeals court was not nearly as clear as Hsub 218.

What she did today is sickening. It's a slap in the face to Kansas lawmakers, and also now to many U.S. Senators, and indeed to the country as a whole.

The fact that we are not surprised is borne out by the fact that the 24 page newsletter being received by our members' across the state today (and already posted on our web site www.kfl.org), is mostly devoted to the possible veto, and action steps to urge legislators to override it.

Mary Kay Culp, State Executive Director, Kansans for Life:

In a 2002 fund-raising George Tiller took credit for Sebelius' win as Kansas governor and then said 'we now have an ally in the highest office in the state.'

If this confirmation goes forward, this most notorious and illegal of late-term abortionists, will have an ally in the highest health office in the land, and that ought to make every American sick."

Kathleen Sebelius is an extremist on before birth issues, end of life issues and cloning issues. As always, her excuses for vetoing reasonable abortion regulation sound good to the uninitiated, but are an empty shell.

We predicted this veto and our newsletter, just now arriving at our member's homes, is dedicated in large part to organizing an override.

But, anticipating this veto and feeling its reality are two different things. It is sickening in the truest sense. Tiller has been killing unborn babies at the point at which they could live outside the womb at the time of the abortion for reasons much less serious than those allowed by law, and no reasons at all.

He has reinvested much of the money back in to Democrat politics here, and it has paid off. Today, it pays off once again. Tiller cannot tolerate any law that puts teeth into enforcement, and allows individuals to sue for damages.

This law would have forced Tiller to issue a genuine medical diagnosis, instead of restating the law. It would also have removed the current situation in which gruesome partial birth abortions are allowed for "mental health" reasons.

The number of post-viability abortion rose 14% in Kansas last year because Tiller ignores the law and Sebelius keeps trying to ignore her role as administering and enforcing the law.

It is not the role of the governor to act as judge and jury and issue vague claims that this bill is not constitutional. The Supreme Court has held that laws about abortion are to be held constitutional on their face, and Hsub218 is such a law.

Kansas has become notorious as the late-term abortion capitol of the nation, and Sebelius' role has been immortalized in abortion campaign records and on a t-shirt, gifted to her by abortionist George Tiller, when he was under indictment.

Instead of showing even the smallest concern for abortion law-breaking, Sebelius keeps trying to turn the conversation to women's behaviors and pregnancy deterrence.

To add insult to injury, despite four days of contacting the governor’s office, Tiller-victim Michelle Armesto-Berge was rebuffed from even a token meeting with Sebelius to explain the torment Michelle suffered undergoing an illegal abortion --during the Sebelius administration

This was a cowardly, and dastardly death warrant that Sebelius signed today. It's a slap in the face to Kansas lawmakers, and also now to many U.S. Senators, and indeed to the country as a whole.

The new KFL newsletter can be found at our web site at www.kfl.org on the right side of the home page, along with link to information about how legislators voted on this bill, and how to reach them while they are on recess to urge them to override this veto when they return April 29th.

Governor Sebelius is sending a message to prolifers with this message -- more to come when she is HHS Secretary...

I really think this is a prime example of why we must fight the Obama appearance at Notre Dame, and get the 1/3 of a million people who have signed the petition to try to block the confirmation of this nomination.

She thinks she has cleared the last hurdle...

But she LIED to the US Senate about her contributions from Tiller the Baby Killer...

I wonder if 1/3 of a million mad Irish backers can stir up VETO proceedings against her once she is a cabinet member...

After all, she lied to the US Senate...

Maybe she can appoint Tiller as Surgeon-General of the USA.

I thought about doing something humorous about that...

But maybe there is too much truth in what you say...

Making Tiller da Baby Killer Surgeon General...
