Honoring Nazanin: an Angel of Iran
The American Thinker ^ | April 26, 2009 | Amil Imani

Posted on 04/26/2009 3:33:51 AM PDT by Scanian

Never mind the mythical angels of religion and poetry. Meet a living angel in flesh, Nazanin Afshin-Jam. Many of you may not know that we have a hero in our midst. Many of you may not know that this individual, singlehandedly, has done more for her compatriots, as well as for other people of our planet, than most of us together. This dazzling beauty, both inside and outside, has dedicated her life to the good of humanity.

We are honoring Nazanin Afshin-Jam for her tireless efforts to shed light into the shadowy corners of conflict, to expose and end the abuses that ruin the lives of so many children in Iran. Her work exemplifies the ideals of the human rights movement: "courage, an unswerving commitment to justice and a genuine concern for the rights of all victims."

Unquestionably, this young talented Iranian born Canadian citizen has been a role model and has earned our respect, not only among most Iranians around the world, but in many other countries where she has visited and spoken about Human rights issues. She has the determination of unquestionable integrity, sensitivity to the needs of others and willingness to help wherever the help is needed. She is a courageous human rights activist, who is exposing horrific crimes about child executions in the Islamic Republic of Iran. She has helped several key cases of Iranian refugees who were going to be deported back to Iran and likely face severe persecution.

Morning Mate!

She's got my vote as the smartest woman in the world. (My wife's gone for the moment... ; ) )

What's going on here? First Miss California and now Nazinin Afishin - Jam?

Absolute perfect foils for the haggard hellary and the shrimpy obambi.

And to that list I’d also add Sarah Palin, who’s also quite pretty...

It’s rather nice when the truly good people are also drop-dead gorgeous, ay! It’s a nice change from the artifice and superficiality of the “beautiful” people from Hollyweird

Dazzling beauty...

meh...maybe for an Iranian, to an Iranian. But there much more talent on any given southern US campus, for example.

Is that what muslim women look like under their burkhas? Do they have to wear burkhas in Iran?

All I can say is the Taliban must be gay.

Of course... Sarah Palin.

What was I thinking?!

I often think that's why the libs are so afraid of her... she's just too darn pretty.

Call it The Beauty and the beasts.

Cowards and gay. Some combination.

Well from my experience of living 4 years in Iran and having married one... yes, most Persian girls, especially those on the Caspian shore regions are (IMO) pretty beautiful.

About the veil:

The burkha is worn mainly in Afghanistan and Pakistan, is mostly colored and has a covered face with net for the eyes. It's not worn in Iran. (Except for Afghans in border regions.)

In Iran the full gown for women (and enforced by Khomeini 1979-89) is the chador, which is always black. Fundamentalist mullahs think the chador is the ideal dress.

However post-Khomeini the required dress is "merely" the hejab, a scarve, usually with color and patterns, to cover the hair. However women who try to buck the oppressive islamic rules, push the scarve to the back of the head to show their hair.

Until 1936, urban women wore the full black chador, while rural woman, who had to work in the free, wore only headscarves. They all were banned by Reza Shah Pahlavi and no veil or headscarve was worn until his abdication 1941.

From 1941-1979 under Mohammed Reza Shah, veils and headscarves were allowed on the street, but banned from public places, and wearing a veil or headscarve was an impediment for career.

Women before the Revolution 1979

I have learned something new — thanks!

I think I like the pre-revolution version better. I bet their women preferred it, too. Why anyone would want to cover up such beauty is way beyond me.

In the warped islamic mind the beauty of a woman (the man’s property) has to be covered, to hide it from the jealous eyes of other men.

Wow. They are truly backward. It is normal, if one has a pretty wife, to show her off. God made her beautiful, and this is something to be celebrated. And if that makes other men jealous: good. That, too, is how things are supposed to be. God also gave Man a backbone and a protective nature, all the better to chase off the other men, and give them a whupping if necessary. That is normal.

Iran needs a few armed feminists to set things right. Afghanistan and Pakistan, too. Those mad Mullahs and Taliban have had it their way for much too long.

Iranian women don’t wear burkas, they wear either hejjab (standard Arab style head covering like a large scarf) or chador (a cloak covering the head and the entire body down to the feet, leaving only the face and hands exposed). And Taliban is in Afghanistan and Pakistan, not Iran. Iran is ruled by a Arabicised Mullah-cracy - NOT by Persians at all. That is why the people are protesting and dying in the streets and in prisons. They want this yoke of slavery to be lifted from their shoulders. Lacking worldwide media attention and the resources to throw off this illegitimate régime, they languish in despair and disease. This woman’s efforts should be praised to the highest heights. Goregous, YES, right down to her soul. Barikallah, Nazarin-Jan!

Sorry, there are those of us who don't find sun-burned Anglo-Celts on "su-thun" campuses to be attractive.

Give me Persians or Brazilians anyday of the week over Buffy the Sorority Layer. ;-)

She is beautiful. But then I also think Irshad Manji is beautiful, so my opinion may not count for much.
