WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama on Wednesday hailed Arlen Specter's conversion to the Democratic Party, while Specter vowed that he'll be an asset as Obama tries to get his ambitious agenda through Congress.

Obama said, "I am grateful that he is here."

Specter was joined by Obama and Vice President Joe Biden at the White House Wednesday morning. Specter noted that he and longtime friend Biden "have talked over every problem under the sun and the moon."

With a beaming Obama standing at his side, Specter said: "I think that I can be of assistance to you, Mr. President. ... There are a lot of big issues we're tackling now that I've been deeply involved in."

“I don’t expect Arlen to be a rubber stamp,” Obama said. “In fact, I’d like to think that Arlen’s decision reflects recognition that this administration is open to many different ideas and many different points of view.”

What BS!

What’s worse, like all traitors, he will have to pay “the bride price.”

Meaning, to be accepted among the ‘rats as an equal, he will have to be an extra-gung-ho ‘rat.

Next the Bow. Specter will find out what’s really going on in those deep bows before one’s master.

I just saw Arlen mention how he lost his “chairmanship”, because Lincoln Chaffe was not supported by the Republicans. This is an important point. That was the “lynch pin” for Arlen's switch! I bet he gets his “chairmanship” back.

I wonder if the Daily Kos will photo edit this picture and make it look like Specter is about to give Biden a BJ? Didn’t they do that to Lieberman and Bush?

Did Sphincter take an Obama loyalty oath? Duty, sacrifice to the state, and to “the One?” Wonder what the bastard got for his soul.

EXCERPT

“Well, of course I am,” Mr. Specter said when asked if he’s worried about the conservative backlash. “But (President) John Kennedy had it right. He said, ‘Sometimes the party asks too much.’ And this is something I think is necessary for the country. It goes beyond politics. It goes beyond the Democratic or Republican position. It’s the right thing for America.”

Mr. Specter said he would have supported the package even if Democrats had not added $6.5 billion in additional money for the National Institutes of Health to the final version of the bill.

Mr. Specter had sought the money for years, and had mentioned that he wanted the money in the bill when he met with President Barack Obama last week.

“That’s only one small part ... That’s not determinative in my mind,” he said.

The stimulus vote could create “a political problem,” he said, but “I thought the public interest was so important that I have to take whatever problems it brings me.”

Good to see a rat finally outed. One down, few more to go. Even if the rats rule forever, better to know who believes government is an end and not a means.

One thing about politicians, they’ll always put their political career ahead of what is good for the country.

I would like to see all the repub's go home and get a real job. Their through anyway. The country doesn't need their wishy washy presence. They have been spineless and it is no use allowing them to keep a seat warm.

We have to get the conservative movement breathing fire. The republicans are not going to get that done. A new party name would help. Like Tea For All. Kinda catchy.

The irony is that some of the Dems don’t trust him because he might just be a cynical opportunist.
