US Marine is suspected of falling ill with swine flu and has been quarantined on a California military base with his roommate, and 37 others who came in contact with him are under observation, the Marine Corps commandant said Wednesday.
"We have one suspected but not confirmed case at 29 Palms," General James Conway told a news conference, referring to the marine base in southern California.
The marine had flu-like symptoms and initial tests indicated he may have swine flu, Conway said.
"He has been quarantined" along with his roommate, the general said.
The marine and his roommate "are not being allowed any other access to human beings" apart from medical staff, he said.

probably. I think we should call it 0bamaflu.
Swine Flu USA Marine Ping ...
Methinks there were bodily fluids exchanged south of the border.
Cabo Wabo?
We can’t call it the Geiger Crud, it’s on the west coast.
It’s at 29 palms so he didn’t get it from climbing
Mt. Sheepshit.
US Military have to be among the best immunized personnel on earth. I was looking through my shot records a few weeks back....thinking about having them hard-bound ;-)
Article said he had never been SOTB
I can just imagine a country like Somalia having a pandemic situation, or Iran for that matter, just thinking of strategic scenarios like this has my head spinning, a debilitating supposed natural virus incapacitates a major military unit in a country thats preparing for war, kinda levels the odds for Israel.
A war of attrition without shooting anything or anyone.
Tijuana...he probably took in a "show" at the El Gato Grande. Plenty of pigs there back when I was last there in '69.
That'd do. Any of these high density party hubs are probably virtual incubators for pathogen vectors to meet and incubate and evolve like the old bath houses did for AIDS. And those long test tubes full of stale recirculated air known as airliners.. fuggetaboutit...
I don’t have details, but I think they have to have some written permission from chain of command to go SOTB for the past year or 2.
From January 15, 2009. I would think it would apply to 29 Palms, as well:

CAMP PENDLETON An order that requires Marines to get written permission before visiting Mexico has been extended indefinitely for the base’s 40,000 Marines.
On Dec. 24, Marine commanders issued the order to personnel requiring that they get written permission from a lieutenant colonel before heading south of the border. The order also made it mandatory for Marines to meet other requirements before taking he trip.
On Wednesday, the order was extended indefinitely by Lt. Gen. Samuel Helland, who commands the Marines and sailors at the base.
Officials said they decision was made due to several violent deaths that have occurred in Tijuana because of an ongoing drug war.
Oh. And NOW we believe the press/BHO’s military leadership? ///Sarc///
During that period, I came down with Rubella (measles). I probably infected a ton of fellow Marines.
Ping (Thanks, DvdMom!)
Reading like Tom Clancy. Quick, someone close off the access roads to Fort Irwin and Mountain Home. We need to have somebody who is able to respond.
