Feds are looking at Edwards' campaign

RALEIGH Federal investigators are sifting through the records of money that helped John Edwards' presidential campaign to determine if any was used to keep quiet his affair with Rielle Hunter.

Edwards, a Democrat and former U.S. senator, acknowledged the investigation to The News & Observer.

“I am confident that no funds from my campaign were used improperly,” Edwards said in a statement.

“However, I know that it is the role of government to ensure that this is true. We have made available to the United States both the people and the information necessary to help them get the issue resolved efficiently and in a timely matter. We appreciate the diligence and professionalism of those involved and look forward to a conclusion.”

Edwards declined to discuss the matter.

A review of Edwards' campaign money will turn up a cluster of nonprofits, some not subject to the same rules of transparency as official campaign organizations.

Records of one group that does disclose donors, the Alliance for a New America, show that Edwards' 2008 campaign got a huge boost from a single source: $3.48 million from a holding company for Rachel “Bunny” Lambert Mellon, a 98-year-old matriarch of industrialist Andrew Mellon's fortune.

Didn’t his Chief of Staff die last year taking full responsibility?

Shades of Zero Mostel, appropriate for that little fascist.

Springtime, for Edwards...

How come it seems like whatever your political sympathies are, if you leave a huge estate when you die, eventually the money will be routed to leftwing causes?

They investigate Edwards but have refused a real investigation of Hillary. There is no comparison in the corruption.

Surprisingly, I just heard a blurb about it on local Portland TV news.

The suspicion that some of Edwards' campaign money may have been used to pay Hunter or Young angers some of his former donors.

It should...

John Edwards has been keeping a low profile since his admission of infidelity last summer. Edwards said he is living in Chapel Hill with his wife and children and is volunteering for nonprofits dedicated to poverty issues in America and abroad.

He's just biding his time. I predict he will reunite with the other woman eventually.

Simple: The heirs of vast fortunes don't have the hunger to be producers. They don't know how to make money without leverage because real investments are risky. Government control offers a predictable return and politicians are a dime a dozen.

Very interesting question. I think it has a lot to do with the "born into money" conundrum where one does not appreciate the effort that goes into acquiring an estate, and sees "society" as the contributing factor for personal wealth - not the ingenuity and hard work of its creator.

So the moral of the story is: if you are very wealthy and conservative, burn all your money before you die.

I see two significant things here, not unrelated.

One is the feds looking into any payments to the Edwards baby-momma for tax avoidance issues.

The other is Team Obama neutering the weakest of the 2012 field of contenders as early as possible.

Same end-game.

YMMV.

MSNBC had a segment on this morning about the affair. When another person mentioned that he may be the father of the baby, the host quickly cut off the segment and said “thats gossip and we don’t do that here”.

LOL

That almost a law like Gresham’s Law or or Say’s Law.

Any charitable foundation will eventually be taken over by leftists.

That is why John M. Olin charged his foundation to disburse all of it’s assets within a generation of his death.

Great builders seldom make great parents; they’re “too busy” to attend to such matters. Even Solomon the “wise” had a putz for a kid.

“Mellon appreciated Edwards’ fight to end poverty. Both she and her husband were committed to fair pay of their employees, Maclennan said.”

Sure they were. But gee, don’t “employees” work? So why didn’t Mellon just give away her fortune if she was so damn concerned about “poverty” and live like a pauper? These people are so fake about their “concern” thus their support for slimebuckets like Edwards.

Phonies all
