MOSCOW, May 7 (RIA Novosti) - Russia will put the first regiment of new-generation RS-24 intercontinental ballistic missiles into service in late 2009, the Strategic Missile Forces (SMF) commander said on Thursday.

"We plan to put the first regiment of mobile [RS-24] missile systems equipped with multiple re-entry vehicle warheads into service by the end of this year," Col. Gen. Nikolai Solovtsov said.

The RS-24 ICBM, which will replace the older SS-18 and SS-19 missiles by 2050, is expected to greatly strengthen the SMF's strike capability, as well as that of its allies until the mid-21st century, Solovtsov said.

The missile will be deployed both in silos and on mobile platforms, and together with the Topol-M single-warhead ICBM will constitute the core of Russia's SMF in the future, he added.

He also said the SMF would conduct at least 14 missile test launches, including space launches, in 2009.

"We are planning 14 launches for various purposes, including the testing of missile components and warheads, the extension of missiles' service life, and space launches," Solovtsov said.

The SMF reportedly has a total of 538 ICBMs, including 306 SS-25 Sickle (Topol) missiles, 88 SS-18 Satan (Voyevoda) and 56 SS-27 Stalin (Topol-M) missiles.

No problem. Don't expect this country to be around by then. As a matter of fact, don't expect the world to be around by then either.

What do we have to fight about? If they just wait a few years we’ll be a third world cesspool anyway.

“What is the next generation United State ICBM?”

Strong words and a reprimand letter from the UN.

Maybe Congressman Murtha (Traitor, PA) can get his kid the gubmint contract to equip the Russian ICBMs with OUR latest nuclear warheads. After all, Bambi said we don’t need no stinkin’ nukes.

Good thing 0bama has solved all our issues with our former enemies.... Gee, that “reset” button worked really well (never mind it actually said “overpriced” lol).

One of the most dangerous statements 0bama has made so far is his “goal of no nuclear weapons in the world”. As the nuclear weapon count goes to zero, the temptation to go to war increases exponentially. In the long term it will also be impossible to verify compliance of over 150 other nations.

What America needs is a modernized nuclear force, and a new ICBM design. I note these new Russian ICBMs are MIRVs...the only MIRVs we have left are submarine based.

...and the “old” SS-18 and SS-19 missile technology and components will end up ... where? Probably in the hands of countries we would really rather not have ICBM and IRBM technology. obambi had better not cut missile defense, it is probably the only way to guarantee we won’t see mushroom clouds over US soil. A lot of these countries simply will not be deterred by MAD even if we still retain the MAD capability.
