Christian college suspends student for gay-porn roles

GROVE CITY, Pa. - A student who appeared in pornographic videos using a pseudonym is appealing his suspension from a Christian college in western Pennsylvania, saying that the off-campus job wasn’t the business of school officials.
John Gechter, 22, of Philadelphia said that he needed the income from his roles in gay porn to pay for school, but was suspended for a year from Grove City College, pending his appeal, after a student saw him in a video posted online.
“I absolutely believe this college violated my rights,” Gechter told The Allied News of Grove City. “They [suspended] me based on my occupation. I was not doing anything illegal.”
College spokeswoman Amy Clingensmith said that Gechter was suspended because he “exhibited behavior contrary to the values” of the college.
“He also indicated he chose to participate in this behavior knowing it was incongruent with the policies, mission and values of Grove City College,” Clingensmith said.
Gechter told the newspaper that he has been in about 15 gay porn scenes in the last two years using the screen name “Vincent DeSalvo.” In doing the work, he said, he flew to Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami and other places on the weekends.
Gechter, a senior majoring in molecular biology, said that he started doing gay porn after he was referred to the industry through a modeling agency late in his sophomore year.
Another student recognized Gechter and copied and pasted some images of him in an e-mail that was sent to some friends April 23. By the next morning, most of the student body and the school admininstration had seen or knew about the e-mail, Gechter said.
Gechter contacted the American Civil Liberties Union and the Pittsburgh Delta Foundation, a gay advocacy group. Delta’s president, Gary Van Horn Jr., sent a letter to the school saying that Gechter’s gay-porn work doesn’t affect the school because he acted under a pseudonym.
Gechter said that he hasn’t attended classes in two weeks since appealing the suspension, saying that he’s afraid of reprisals from students.
But Clingensmith said that Gechter has been seen eating in the cafeteria and working out in the gym among other students. *
School rules okay yes, but does that justify the treatment by other “christians” towards him on campus?
But HE has chosen to blow off the rules HE agreed to follow. And now he gets the consequences for his FREE choices.
Tossing food is another matter, and infinitely less reprehensible, morally.
There are THOUSANDS of colleges he could attend and still be a gay porn star.

Point here is that Christians are quick to howl and point to the moral high ground but here you have group threatening and assaulting someone, not very christian like if you ask me.
You would think if they were really about spreading the word of God they would go to him as a fellow christian and friend and help him understand Gods word and his wishes for each of us, instead they send him hate mail and throw food at him.
The following may not be easy for some people, but truth rarely is.

The Word of God is clear. Unrepentant (practicing) homosexuals who die in their sin, GO TO HELL. They can attend church, they can call themselves a Christian...but if they are practicing homosexuals when they die—they will spend eternity in Hell.
This passage lists a number of sins that offer the same consequences for unrepentance. An unrepentant thief goes straight to hell as well.
BUT, no other sin listed in that passage has a number of followers out to forcibly legalize their sin-calling sin a civil right.
When Jesus stopped the stoning of the adulteress, He told her to. “Go and sin no more.” Repentance doesn’t mean perfection, or a lack of struggle...The sin must stop! If a gay or lesbian isn’t even attempting to stop the sin-They will burn: end of story.

As to why he chose Grove City College out of the thousands out there, here is his answer ( from the interview ) :
Q: Some people might ask: Why would this guy pay his own way at a college that so blatantly opposed his lifestyle?
A: You have to understand that I was raised very conservatively. When I was accepted at GCC, it was a big deal—my parents really pushed me to enroll. Because—and people outside the area might not know this—GCC has a very high academic reputation. I thought it would make me a well-rounded young man.
So I was seduced by their academic sophistication, though I never agreed with their moral code. Despite that, the education was top-notch for the price.
I never said he did not deserved to be disipline. In fact I said he did derserved disipline.
The rest of my statements goes on to say that the other students are no better then he is, due to thier lack of Christian values in how they treated him.

Yes, there are "Christians" who do not act very Christ-like. I myself would treat this man as persona non grata to attend the Christian school while performing very un-Christ-like acts.

Gechter says deal will allow him to earn GCC degree

The student suspended from Grove City College for his off-campus work in gay porn has withdrawn from the Christian school but can still earn a diploma.
John Gechter, 22, told Allied News of Grove City, that he and the college worked out a deal to allow him to take his final two classes elsewhere, transfer those credits to Grove City College and earn a degree from the college.
“(Grove City College) has a rule where the last 30 credits taken for a major have to be at GCC,” Gechter said. “Administrators are willing to make a loophole for me by letting me transfer in courses (from another institution) to graduate.”
“I’m satisfied with the outcome but not happy,” Gechter said.
GCC did not confirm any of Gechter’s claims and only offered a statement, noting that Gechter has “voluntarily chosen to withdraw from Grove City College.”
“(Gechter’s) suspension resulted from his involvement in the adult pornography industry,” the statement read. “The student acknowledged that he was employed in the adult entertainment industry and that he knew that violated the student code of conduct. Throughout this process, his sexual orientation was not a factor in the decision.”
Gechter, who worked in porn under the alias Vincent DeSalvo, was suspended April 27 after college officials learned of his off-campus job. Gechter said he had been working in porn for the last two years, paying his way through college with his earnings.
The college, which has a strict code of student conduct that prohibits premarital sex, said that Gechter’s work in porn violated its standards. Gechter appealed the suspension and said previously he was considering a lawsuit.
I just hope that the ACLU and LAMDA will not pursue this matter any further and quietly let it die down. They have
a tendency to make things appear bigger than they are in order to make a point nationwide.
Assuming that part of the story is even true, to say that students who may have acted in a juvenile, unChristian manner are on the same level as someone who knowingly and deliberately engaged in behavior that God has singled out as an abomination and especially offensive to Him, is going a little far.
Again, assuming that the accusation against the students is true, I have no doubt that it was dealt with by the college and was brought to a halt.
Depending upon your search criteria you can come up with some strange results.
