Families are the unsung heroes. Thank you for continuing to help take care of those “boys.”
My brother says Camp Victory is not what you think it is, it is more like a small fortified city, TacoBell, Pizza Hut, BK, Seattle’s Best Coffee shop, etc, swimming pool, fishing hole, a PX that is better than SuperWalmart. It is where the celebrities go when they visit. Most of the people there are support troops that never leave the compound.
I meant Camp Liberty. Camp Victory is about the same.
This particular spot was an open field in 2003-4.
I hate them. I really do.
I read on Marinetimes.com that he had had his service weapon taken away, and had an escort taking him to and from this facility, that he was able to get control of the escort’s weapon and returned to the facility.
sounds a little like Long Binh.
“As a Combat Engineer myself, I hang my head in shame.”
No need. I was USAF, but I’ve worked with Combat Engineers for a few months in Afghanistan. They busted their butts and did a great job. My sympathy and prayers for the families.
A bit more for the mix
Russell, 44, is from Sherman, Texas and is on his third deployment to Iraq...
Was talking to a USMC buck sergeant during Christmas time who had served overseas often. He was saying he and his unit were anxious to get back over there to finish the job. He was not the gung-ho or fanatic type, just a calm professional looking to the future and wanting to be a part of it. I was impressed.
No need for you to do that. We respect you as much as we always have.
This was an anomaly...a very tragic anomaly.
Someone on here yesterday was spouting off about how much stress the troops are under and subtly blaming the US and the war.
That's not true...the majority of the combat troops are enthusiastic about what they do.
As I've been seeing in the news, ther seems to be an uptick in these sorts of incidents back home lately. Perhaps some Americans in Iraq are vulnerable to this as well.
I have 2 brothers, one was a first responder on both WTC bombings and the other re-joined the military after 9/11. The one in the military was one of the first to go to Afghanistan, did his time and went back for 2 more yrs. as a contractor in Iraq, home for good as of last month. Of the two my brother who was a 1st responder, has terrible PTSD but unfortunately is in denial.
Back off the Java Gay State.
I asked a simple question.
I’ ve had the revolving door going since the beginning, I'm good with what they do for a living, but you have to admit that it is rough on families and sometime crap like this happens.
I'll wait for more facts before passing judgment on the Sgt who is being held responsible.
Kind thanks.
Today is not a good day.
OK...OK.I hear ya.Having spent years working in the medical field, both in the military and the civilian world, perhaps I can't expect laymen to have the same knowledge of that field as do I (not that I'm any brain surgeon or the former CO of Walter Reed).
A stress clinic is a psychiatric clinic. They are found in all US combat theaters.
Thank You.
De nada.
No one has said whether he requested the tours or he was stop lossed, but so far his three tours are being used to trash the war in general.
