And, of course, Chris Matthews goes apoplectic, while Chris Cillizza wisely stays on the sidelines — and, one presumes, jots down notes quickly for a Fix update. Matthews starts spluttering about “Cheney talk” and completely misses Ford’s point, which should shock no one (via Instapundit):

Looks like this idiot Ford want to run for Senate again. He’ll ‘pretend’ to be conservative until he gets elected, and then he’ll show his true colors. Let’s see how many people are fooled.

None of which means he doesn't agree with torture.

Remember, the Democrats claiming that torture is bad are in a distinct minority. Most of them would leap in and do it themselves with relish!

They only do it with ‘relish’ if they thought the threat was against them and there’s if it was against people they didn’t know and/or in a state of district they didn’t represent then they would be against it. Just like the progressives who don’t want us to have guns, but want their bodyguards to be ‘packing heat’.

Ford didn’t make Speaker of the House because he wasn’t liberal enough.

He’s got no Senate seat to run for in TN. If he couldn’t win in 2006 against a weak RINO who didn’t even get a majority of the primary vote, he’ll never win. He’d actually have a decent shot at running for Governor next year, because the Dems don’t have a first tier candidate, and they’ve almost conceded they’ll lose it.
