Former Vice President Dick Cheney says the only way for President Barack Obamas diplomacy with Iran to work is if Obama threatens to bomb the country.
"We fail to recognize the fact that we're alone out there in terms of trying to achieve the objective of forcing the Iranians to give up their nuclear weapons," Politico quotes Cheney as saying, referring to the efforts of European nations to restrain the U.S. from military action.
Everybodys in a giant conspiracy to achieve a different objective than the one we want to achieve, Cheney said, adding that negotiations to halt Irans nuclear program are bound to fail unless we are perceived as very credible in threatening military action.
"Most of the other nations out there are willing to live with a nuclear-armed Iran," he said, noting that negotiating with Iran to end its nuclear program is merely an attempt by that country to stall for time.
Cheney made his comments after watching daughter Liz debate American policy toward Iran Tuesday at Rockefeller University in New York. He echoed his daughter's contention that the threat of military strikes to halt Irans nuclear program must be left on the table.
If they believe the threat of military force is on the table thats frankly the only thing Ive seen that convinces them theyd better get serious about sanctions, Liz Cheney argued at the event, which the Rosenkranz Foundation sponsored.
Liz Cheney was joined by former Coalition Provisional Authority spokesman Dan Senor in the debate against Mideast scholar Ken Pollack and former Under Secretary of State Nicholas Burns, who told Cheney that her position would give the Obama administration just "one option and that is war," Salon.com reported.

Just have Steele resign and put the Angler in there!
No where in the article is this sentence substantiated.
The closest is LIZ C stating that 'military action' must be threatened.
Just search for the word 'bomb' and it only appears in the headline and this sentence.
Obama will do no such thing.
Israel is the only hope now.
Nobody else will do it.
Obama would rather live with the Iranian bomb than stop it.
He is a fool.
Cheney is 100% right on. That is the only thing they understand.
Europeans are spineless and limp-wristed.Today,they are an *impediment* to world peace and stability. What we should be doing is to secretly...or maybe *not* so secretly....give Israel every bit of aid...every bit of assistance (military *and* political)....and every bit of encouragement they might need to “deal with” the 9th Century bearded pig fornicators currently ruling Iran “with extreme prejudice”.
The point remains: arms, and the will to use them, keep the world polite.
If Iran doesn’t think we’ll actually _do_ anything to stop ‘em, they can just wrap us up in words until there’s suddenly a smoking hole in a particular part of the ME.
Bomb bomb bomb bomb bomb Iran....
The only thing Obama would bomb them with is kisses.
I agree with ya’; I was just pointing out the crappy writting in the article.
We should bomb their nuclear weapons sites in a manner that spills their refined nuclear materials killing their nuclear scientists and making the areas around those sites uninhabitable for 10 thousand or so years. Doing so will send a message to Iran...and to the other wannabe nuclear nations run by thugs.
In 1979 there was still a USSR. After the Evil Empire fell apart, the mullahcracy still wouldn’t have been easy to take down due to lack of a staging area, but of course would have been a great idea. One way to have built the staging area would have been to remove Saddam Hussein after expelling Iraq from Kuwait. Nice job, Bush Sr. ;’) Snuffing Putin would have been a good idea somewhere in the post-USSR timeframe. Like today or tomorrow, for example.
I’m in the other camp... I think it’s a stupid move... We shouldn’t even think about it.
However I get the feeling that we are hearing a lot out of Cheney lately because he is no longer deferring to Bush.
He was probably biting his tongue for eight years.
