WASHINGTON (AP) --

Former White House aide Karl Rove and a special prosecutor have ended their interview about the firing of U.S. attorneys during the Bush administration.

Rove left his lawyer's office about a half-hour after prosecutor Nora Dannehy, who is weighing whether to bring criminal charges in the politically charged dismissals.

The former presidential adviser declined comment as he left the interview, but a spokeswoman for his lawyer said Rove cooperated and tried to answer the prosecutor's questions.

Dannehy's inquiry follows an earlier Justice Department inquiry in which Rove and other Republican officials refused to cooperate. That investigation concluded that political considerations played a role in the firings of as many as four prosecutors.

Twelve attornies, wasn’t it?

Clinton fired 97 (NINETY SEVEN) as soon as he took office.

I don’t recall any investigations.

They serve at the pleasure of the president. He can fire them at will.

Klinton fired 3 times as many and we never heard a freak'n peep.

I think they call for investigations. It has been seventeen years that those fired U.S. attorneys have waited for justice. How long will this administration wait to investigate?

Of course, you are correct. But it would be fun to watch them squirm - turnabout is fair play and all...

There’s no underlying crime here, so they’re probably fishing for perjury and obstruction charges...

Jeez, don’t they ever give up? How many did Clinton toss out on their ears when he came in? ALL of them. We have eight here, so biggest of deals.

Well, if I read the current political mood, it is never 'too late!'

I have neither responded to pleas for financial support, not contributed a penny to Republican pleas to stop the current fascist juggernaut. The RINOs were all complicit in their success.

I have a faint hope that there is at least ONE Republican currently serving who will demand that identical previous political housecleaning also be investigated.

And it would be lovely if every serving Republican currently serving co-sponsored the legislation.

Wishful thinking? Perhaps. But for the Republicans, that is their only remaining option.
Moderation is for losers.
This has been a decades long political war. Time to fight it or resign.

It will look rather stupid to be conducting an investigation of Bush firing twelve US District Attorneys while Obama does exactly the same thing.

I still don’t get it. They are political appointees, serving “at will”. For example, If Bush said, I think their politics were wrong to be able to advance my vision. Wouldnt that be completely legal?

Isnt that exactly what Bubba did?

Why didn’t Rove just tell the guy to pound sand?

Rove really should have given them those two famous words and walked out. This is one of the most ludicrous, political contrivances in decades.

Indeed. If Rove says “it was raining” they’ll get some Democrat stooge or “Journalist” (same thing) to testify that it was sunny.

Then they’ll indict Rove for perjury.

It’s in DC, so the judge and jury will be more Democrat stooges.

I fear for Rove. I fear for our country.

“U.S. attorneys are political appointees who serve at the pleasure of the president, but cannot be fired for improper reasons.”
The above untruthful and (purposefully?)opinion was published in the referenced AP article. Actually, U.S. attorneys can be fired for any reason the president deems proper.
