MERCED, Calif. – First lady Michelle Obama praised graduating students at California's smallest, youngest public university for their determination to succeed, urging them to give back to their communities.

In her debut as a commencement speaker on Saturday, Mrs. Obama evoked the struggles of California's founders — settlers and former slaves, trailblazers and immigrants — to encourage the 493 members of the school's first full graduating class to use their newfound skills to lift up those around them.

...the first lady suggested they should cement their legacy by starting after-school programs to help students succeed, working to reduce pollution or linking needy families to social services.

Many of these clueless grads fell on their knees in adoration, but didn't think that what she suggested was selling their souls to the company store!

Give back?

Is the class composed of criminals who took from society?

If these students REALLY want to help people, they should start a business, make a product that people want to buy, and pay other people to make that product. That way, everybody wins.

I know this would NEVER occur to Michelle.

Speaking of public schools (government schools) since the taxpayers are taking pay cuts and losing their jobs, is it possible for teachers and admnistration to do their part?

Will all those National Education Association members out there ‘give back’ some of their salaries to help the taxpayers out??????????????

What do you think, Michelle???????? Ha Ha Ha

Excellent post and perception. That worshiping for the damned is truly stomach-turning. I do wonder how much Michelle knows about her husband’s lack of citizenship and I wonder why she’s so confident that he’ll get away with the con.

Already been done:
After school programs...”Kids do your homework”
Working to reduce pollution...taking shallower breaths
link families to social services....get a phone book
That was easy!

When students arrived at UC Merced four years ago, there were more cows in the surrounding pasture grass than there were academic buildings in the outer reaches of Merced, about 140 miles southeast of San Francisco. Today the university boasts the highest percentage of first-generation college students and financially needy students, and one of the most ethnically diverse student bodies in the 10-campus public system.

Aw, jeez. Isn't that great? All of them are probably just as entitled as MO was.

The multi-millionaire comes and tells students to work for free. I bet that part of the speech doesn’t resonate too well.

Yeah, right. Give back!

Like the Obamas did during the first half of this decade when they could only scrounge up about 1% a year for charitable contributions.

Or the Bidens, who gave even less, an embarrassing .1%!! Heck, Joe, 2 or 3 hundred bucks is pocket change for you. (although I know it could buy you a few pounds of kobe beef)

Why give back to those, who have never done anything constructive in life except rob and steal. I was wondering where the msm derives the ficticious(Lady) status, for the Mau Mau queen?
I as many patriotic Americans, have no President at this time in life.

I agree with you completely... however I was referring to the whole notion of people "giving back." I believe the term "giving back" is used to convey a sense of obligation to the giver, who hasn't taken anything, and a sense of unearned entitlement to the recipient, who most likely hasn't done anything in life that is productive.

I want my children to learn that they should "give to" others who are less fortunate, and that such giving must come from their own hearts and nowhere else. I don't want them to ever think that they must "give back" to others who had no role in making them them people they will grow up to be.

The whole concept of this school sounds strange to me. It doesn't appear to prepare it's students to succeed in life, it only makes good little socialists out of them.

It would be interesting to know what the taxpayers of California shelled out to build this school and hire the teachers. Beyond that, what did it cost the taxpayers to pay to bring in the students and keep them there.

The bigger question then becomes, what will these students be able to give back to the economy of California?

Sadly, I predict that most of them will never be producers. They will live out their lives never achieving, never improving their station in life---especially if they follow the big woman's advice.

Apparently, the curriculum seems to bend more towards brainwashing, reading how some of the students spent a lot of their time and energy idolizing the Obammas and begging the Mrs to speak at their graduation.

“you must bend down and let someone...”

It's the Democrat mantra as espoused by the poster boy for perversion: Barney Frank.

In reality, “give back” is liberal-speak for “don’t stop us from taking it from you to give away as we see fit”.

“If these students REALLY want to help people, they should start a business, make a product that people want to buy, and pay other people to make that product”

Exactly. The future of this country is dependent upon the creativity, ambition, and hard work of it’s citizens, not ‘community organizing’. I would ask Michele to make a list of activities she would define as ‘giving back’. How about going into the military? Would she encourage that? It’s clearly an incredibly honorable way of giving back.
