The gospel according to Rumsfeld: Bush era comes back to haunt Obama (Mild Barf Alert)

The fight over national security increasingly threatens to drag the United States into a political civil war that could also fracture Barack Obama's political base.

It is turning the President's own Democratic allies into potential enemies, while undermining his domestic priorities in health care and energy reform.

Yesterday, New York Times columnist Frank Rich pointed all eyes to the website of Gentleman's Quarterly, which has posted a series of cover sheets to ultra-top-secret intelligence updates that former defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld used to prepare daily for former president George W. Bush.

It turns out that the cover sheets routinely showed pictures of tanks and troops with exhortatory quotes from Scripture. On April 3, 2003, shortly after the Pentagon began circulating a false account of the "rescue" of Private Jessica Lynch as a distraction from setbacks in the war, the briefing was prefaced with a quote from the Book of Joshua.

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." The cover sheets can be found at http://men.style.com/gq/features/topsecret

The former president, it would seem, could be influenced by such things.

These embarrassments will further fuel the demands in Congress and the media for a full inquiry into the acts of the previous administration surrounding national security and the war in Iraq.

Those debates are consuming an increasing amount of political oxygen, distracting Congress and the administration from Mr. Obama's domestic agenda.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who is herself under fire over when and whether she was briefed on the Bush administration's interrogation techniques, called last week for a "truth commission" to "determine how intelligence was misused, and how controversial and possibly illegal activities like torture were authorized within the Executive Branch."

How long do they think they can keep on with that "Bush is a moron" meme, now that Barry is tripping over his tongue on a daily basis? You mean Secretary Rumsfeld and President Bush are Bible-believing Christians? What a scandal!!

Apparently forever, they still try to pretend that Al Gore is a genius and an oracle of truth, if they can do that they will never give up on the idea that Obama is a genius and Bush is an idiot.

I’m missing what is supposedly “embarrassing” here.
