Sorry. I have had to report you to the Moderators for attempting to inject common sense into an energy discussion.

You are a danger to this government. Obviously you are also patriarchal, hegemonic, binary gender-normative, misogynist, racist, and several other not-so-attractive right-wing things that it is my duty to report to Janet Napolitano of Homeland Security.

It will not go easy for you in the Political Re-Education Camps, my friend, but for your own good, we v...er will bring you around to the right way of thinking..

In addition, other hydrocarbon fuels will remain or become available over the next ten years or so, because there’s no way we can continue to pump out of the Mideast / OPEC fields and maintain anything like what we regard as our way of life.

Truly massive new oilfields have appeared within the last decade threaten to make crude oil a "glut" commodity that is in true "oversupply."

Cuba, Brazil, Northern Iraq, The "Empty Quarter" of Saudi Arabia, Oman, Yemen, The Gulf of Tonkin, etc. almost ad infinitum. The "known reserves" of Saudi Arabia and Iraq have actually doubled.

The problem is not the supply of energy in the form of crude oil, but the price. With demand down, and supplies at an all-time high, oil has somehow risen to over $60/barrel. If the price at the pump continues to rise, contrary to what should be market forces, the Obama administration will not get a second term, and unless I miss my guess, even those voters who usually sit it out on the couch will swarm the polls in 2010. Not even ACORN and the legions of the dead, illegals, and inner city multiple absentees will counter that. With the MMM giving no signs of encouraging domestic production as a world price stabilizer, he's toast.

And I will have to get a new tinfoil chapeau. Something very weird and Soros-like going on here.

“The White House would not divulge details, but environmental advocates and industry officials briefed on the program said that the president would grant California’s longstanding request that its own tailpipe emissions standards be imposed nationally.”

It doesn’t take a primary school student to figure out a high MPG for a normal sedan, SUV or 18 wheeler is unfeasible.

Who will design these new vehicles for the UAW if they can’t hire engineers?

Men of China?

Automotive engineers from China?

OK. But wouldn't we rather have guys who can drive? Talk to an auto insurance underwriter, and call me when Wun Hung Lo takes the pole at Indianapolis.
