Cap and Trade is a Costly Experiment (Average family to pay $3100 more a year in energy cost)
American Chronicle ^ | 5/19/2009 | Tom Cole

Most Americans agree that our country must do more to achieve energy independence and to produce cleaner sources of energy. There are steps we need to implement over time to change the way we use energy and reduce our use of some types of carbon-based fuels. But if a radical proposal being organized by the President and liberals in Congress becomes law, American families and businesses will see tax hikes, skyrocketing energy costs and fewer jobs.

Under the guise of creating environmentally responsible "green" jobs, the Obama Administration has proposed a policy known as "cap and trade." Under such a system, American companies would be required to limit the amount of carbon dioxide their operations emit. Any company that exceeds their dictated emission limit will have to purchase or trade credits with other companies that have excess credits available. While this might sound good on the surface, the reality is that this proposal will result in a $624 billion energy tax that will most certainly be passed along to the consumer.

Cap and trade and the health care fiasco will be the brown clown’s collective Waterloo.

I’ts a total crock, carbon dioxide can’t go up into the upper aptmosphere since it’s heavier than air.

Discharge a CO2 fire extinguisher and where does it go but to the ground.

Cap and trade is going to make the Iraqi oil for food program look like a model of open and transparent governance. The last thing our country needs is Chicago style politics in charge of energy production.

“How much will it cost just to recharge those car batteries?”

I have been asking myself that same question from the beginning.

Which businesses will fall under the Cap and Trade policy? Does it assess the energy use of all businesses or does it only apply to "energy producers"? Will the hometown quilt shop have to conform, or the local small trucking company? Will the quilt shop end up getting credits for it's comparatively low energy use? Will they be able to sell their credits to the trucking company who used more than their allowance?

And who sets those limits, caps? What a nightmare!

If all FReepers would take the time to scream long and loud we might be able to stop this. The problem as always is that they are going to ram rod this through before anyone even knows about it. So also take the time to “splain” it to some of you liberal acquaintances. I know Congress doesn't listen unless there is a huge roar, and we need that roar now.

Under cap and trade...would the producers of CO2 fire extinguishers be credited for "containing" the evil air component, and would those fighting the fires be fined for releasing it? Could we tax politicians for spewing too much hot air?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Now they are attacking carbon, the very building block of our life form.

Do you know that in Russia they said the downtrodden masses were overthrowing a corrupt regime and would build a workers’ paradise?

What really happened is that a few thousand stooges paid by New York bankers assassinated the Royal Family that had been improving life for the Russians and set up a tyranny by a few men worse than anything the people had ever seen.

They lied, just as Barack Hussein Obama lied last November. He’s dismantling America brick by brick under the guise of helping the earth.

So will the local pawn shop or Hallmark store actually start making money from selling their credits? - the new capitalism!

And remember how the libs hated the "paper securities" of Wall Street! Accused the finance business of trading in products that don't exist. Welllllll?
