WASHINGTON -- Saying California voters delivered a message to "go all out" in cutting government spending, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger today promised to make severe state budget reductions in education, health care and law enforcement.
"We tried to not make those kind of cuts, but now we have to," the Republican governor told reporters in Washington. "There's no other choice. I think the message was clear from the people: Go all out and make those cuts and live within your means."
Schwarzenegger thanked Californians for voting in Tuesday's special election. They rejected ballot measures endorsed by the governor that would have reduced the cuts to $15 billion. And the governor said the message was "very loud and clear."
"And you know something? I appreciate that," Schwarzenegger said. "When you hear that from the people, then it gives us a chance to go and adjust and say, `OK, we went the wrong direction. Now let's go in the right direction. Let's go do what the people want.' "
Schwarzenegger made his remarks this morning before flying back to Sacramento, where he planned to meet with legislative leaders to plot strategy on how to proceed in balancing the state's budget.
After analyzing the election results, the governor said that "an overwhelming majority of people told Sacramento go and do your work yourself; don't come to us with your problems."
"The majority of people that came up to me didn't complain so much about certain issues," Schwarzenegger said. "They just said, 'Why are you bothering me again? I mean, I'm busy. You take care of it. You guys are sent to Sacramento to take care of those problems. Don't come to us. I'm angry. I'm upset. And sure don't come to us for more money. ....

Stop paying for illegal aliens, and deport the ones here, and you can balance the budget and make a big dent in the unemployment #s.

I haven’t been following this that closely. But didn’t 0bama mandate that Arnold give the SEIU employees their raises, or something like that? Is the Gov. even able to make cutbacks at this time? I thought he was admonished by the administration not to do so.

Along with deporting illegals (self-deportation through stoppage of support programs is one way), how about getting rid of the cumbersome environmental laws passed by the idiotic liberals that have forced businesses to leave CA because they cannot make a profit in this state? Allow companies to make a profit here and the state will take in more revenues. Novel idea.
How about they stop giving services to illegals. How much would that save? That would be a great first step. Of course that is never going to happen.

Oh no, that’s not the way the game is played. You don’t slash colostomy bags for illegals, nor do you run to the courthouse steps and demand that Prop 187 be upheld. No way.
Instead, you make the cuts in the most visible and potentially painful areas you can to PUNISH the voters for not signing on for yet another blank check.
I just wish the rest of us could vote to expunge them from the union.

After that look closely at eliminating departments, commissions etc.
Keep cutting “ services” until he only needs half the current taxes to have a surplus every year.
When we're done there, let's cut off all the payments to the parents for "anchor babies". The, start charging, out of state college tuition rates to all those in our universities who cannot prove legal residency in California.
Finally, let's reduce salaries of all non-medical, non-teacher, police, fire dept., and correctional state employess. All pension contributions by the state should be immediately halted and if the stat employees want pensions, let them pay for THEMSELVES like the rest of us in the private sector. Lengthen the time of qualification for any state pension and prohibit any double pension dipping by any state employee or politician.
Bet California could get a handle on the deficit very quickly...
Then, instead of ballot propositions in CA, we need to remove the miscreants from office and elect people who will represent the people and not special interests.
What? Instead of a tent to smoke his Nicaraguan cigars, he’ll just smoke in the park behind the governor building?
How about cutting out free aid to illegal aliens?
