“Young people need to learn the virtue of making do with what they have. “

and 0bama is the 0ne to teach them right?

Dude, don't worry, they will come for you too. You can sit there all smug 15 mi from nowhere but death is coming down the track.

“Who is in charge of the clattering train?
The axles creak and the couplings strain;
And the pace is hot, and the points are near,
And Sleep has deadened the driver's ear;
And the signals flash through the night in vain,
For Death is in charge of the clattering train.”

Quoted by W. Churchill in “The History of WWII”, Volume 1, ‘The Gathering Storm’, pg 123.

Your parents might have been poor but at least they were free.

I want to be free. Not to be ‘taught’ the value of a dollar.

Go to the re-education camps yourself. Not me.

“How will that affect safety? I’ll bet they have not even THOUGHT of asking thise questions.”

They HAVE thought of this. They are NOT stupid. They just don’t care. It is about CONTROL.
(sorry, I haven’t yelled so much on a thread but this is a joke.)

The funny thing is the obaessiah drove an SUV in Chicago! I am not sure when, but it was a big deal during the campaign/election when some local Chicagoan bought an SUV that used to be the One’s.

How the H*LL does he think people in the midwest will be able to navigate the winter weather?! Tuna cans tend to be rather skiddish on icy and snow-packed roads—I know, we owned a Honda Civic Hybrid. till it was totaled in a crash. Maybe tuna cans work fine in sunny Cali or AZ weather, but I heard Rush talking about accident statistics in Europe and these smaller cars are not safe—fine if people WANT to drive them, but this really blows that govt trying to impose car choices—ironic how we have all these laws to encourage safety like mandatory seat belts, no cell phone, no texting, etc, yet the government is legislating cars that are not as safe. Beyond the safety factor, how are tradesman supposed to haul stuff and larger families supposed to travel? It is ironic because as I look around my neighborhood many families actually already do have one smaller car—for quick trips, perhaps a parent that commutes or teen driver; but then they also have a larger vehicle that is safer in winter, hauls boat, or family.

Obama loves the union so much he is helping the car industry, but he is really putting them out of business.

I hope he is equally ineffective when he decides to put the screws to the rest of us. LOL.

When I was reading the mpg standards, I wondered about folks who need trucks or large vehicles to tow things. We tow a boat...wouldn’t that be an interesting thing to try with one of those “squadgy” fuel efficient cars.

I can imagine it. Here's what it's like trying to tow something in one of those countries where larger cars and pickups are hard to find:

I re-read your post and it has to be the most screwed up post on this thread.

#1. Who cares what your rural relatives had back in the day.

#2. “We are going to have to go backward for awhile?” Backward is what? I’ll tell you what. It is called backward in FREEDOM.

#3. “Now *I* have the magic wallet, and the only way it has money in it is if I don’t spend it.” This is the most laughable. Guess what. 0bama knows you have the magic wallet. You won’t be able to say ‘No’ to him.

You seem to delight that misery is coming by way of communism. It’ll teach us young whippersnappers a lesson won’t it. Teach us the value of a dollar won’t it? Don’t you get it?

What matters is FREEDOM. Not whatever crap you have piled up in your garage that you wasted YOUR money on.

A Sam Adams quote is good for you.

If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.” Sam Adams

Again: 0bama DOESN’T CARE. He doesn’t care about you, about your crashes, about how you get to work, haul your tools.

0bama wants to control your life. The freedom to go where you want, when you want is a freedom he despises. He is coming after your freedom.

0bama knows the cost this will have on you and guess what.

“Some are more equal than others”. Read the book Animal Farm? Last scene is where the pigs are partying in the farmers house. Well guess who is partying in the house now?

Recent conversation with a lib-in-law who drives a huge SUV used just for buying junk at estate sales -

she thinks she will still have the freedom to choose what vehicle she drives if these people get their way.

How is it that all libs seem to think THEY are part of the exempt elite that will not have to comply with the rules being imposed on everyone else?

Dude. That is the third time you’ve replied to my post, and it wasn’t even posted to you. Lighten up.

I can see I touched a nerve, but it wasn’t intended to be inflammatory. I’m not saying I LIKE what’s going on, I’m just saying what I see coming. When the first bombs fell last September and Circuit City announced they were going out of business, my first thought was, we’re not going to be needing as much retail.

Likewise, when the cost of energy “necessarily skyrockets”, people aren’t going to be able to casually trot up to the city to buy things. That’s all I’m saying.

If I was running the car company- I would just completely ignore the CAFE standards and keep building the cars that people buy.

What can happen? The government can fine the car company? They're already deep in debt and the government is covering the losses with forgivable loans. It would be like the government fining itself.

I guess they could fire the management, but if they think the car companies were mismanaged before, just wait until they're run by politicians and political cronies.

10-4.

I do get worked up over approaching communism and ..... anyway...I am sorry.

I’ll take a couple breaths and try to relax.

Later.
