By the way, Obama’s giving the REPUBLICANS an incredible amount of campaign fodder here. After showing a scene of a Soccer Mom trying to stuff her 3 kids into their Smart Car, they could say something like:
“Elect us and we’ll free up America to produce the cars that AMERICANS want”
[rather than cars that Kenyans want us to have - implied]
But, NO, the Republican leadership is too busy listening to Colon Bowels and pounding on Rush and Sarah.
He can give them all the fodder they want, because they’ll never use it. God forbid a Republican candidate say something other than, “I’m sure my opponent is patriotic, God-fearing, honest, devoted and a great husband, too, but his 38% tax rate is higher than my proposed 37.9% tax rate.”
These new regulations definitely hurt larger families since there is no vehicle that meets the new CAFE standards that would be large enough to hold more than 4 or 5 people. In other words, larger families would have to take 2 cars in order to go somewhere together, which would negate any fuel savings. But Obama obviously doesn’t care what impact these rules have on the average citizens. After all, he isn’t going to be driven around in a hybrid. What a hypocrite.
