WASHINGTON (AFP) US President Barack Obama on Tuesday ended the divide between national security and homeland security staff in the White House, arguing the move would make Americans safer.
Obama shook up the security structure of his teams of advisors after examining the results of a study he ordered into how best to handle homeland security and counter-terrorism efforts.
"I have carefully reviewed the findings and recommendations of that study, and am announcing a new approach which will strengthen our security and the safety of our citizens," Obama said in a statement.
"These decisions reflect the fundamental truth that the challenges of the 21st Century are increasingly unconventional and transnational, and therefore demand a response that effectively integrates all aspects of American power."
The move will see the full integration of the White House National Security Council and the Homeland Security Council to support all policy on international, transnational and homeland security issues.
Obama also decided to form new directorates and positions on the new National Security Staff to cope with 21st Century threats including cybersecurity and possible terrorism using weapons of mass destruction.

‘cybersecurity’ and DHS.
Do the logic.
The boy king forms his knights. Nothing more.
What a total maroon.
How long can this pathetic wussy, wussy, sissy boy last before reality catches up with him and kicks him in his delicate little derriere?
Can he possibly last before we have a violent armed revolution or coup d’etat?
Secret Police.
What about the Gorelick Wall? Maybe Obama can give half to the Pali’s since they like taking over other’s sacred ground.
Does this mean that the CIA gets to clean up after hurricanes now?
While N Korea is sending NUKES to shake Obama up! What a dumb-ass!
The blatant aggregation of power into a single person’s hands continues unabated.
Do all you knee-jerk haters ever consider what you’re about to say before posting?
This seems like a good idea to me. Consolidate Washington staffs for better communications and maybe even smaller organization.
What’s not to like?

What is the “Homeland security council” vs Dept of homeland security?
Did he simply merge two WH “councils”? I have to wonder why was there ever more than one “national security” type council unless it initially was supposed to be domestic vs international.
No checks and balances. Soon he will have his own Gestapo.
By consolidating, in my opinion, we risk losing a concentration on national security, because we are mixing a concern with Swine Flu, floods, hurricanes and other natural disasters, with our national security. I think there’s a big difference between natural disasters and “man-made” disasters. When they are all lumped together, it is easy to take care of those screaming loudest for FEMA funds here while not taking care of protecting us from outside threats.
I’ve seen what happens when you continue to expand a bureacracy to the point it has too many irons in the fire. Nothing gets taken care of. If you call that being a “knee-jerk hater” so be it.

There is always an EVIL underlay in any and all Obama policy.
Think all the very worst thoughts and you will nail what IS REALLY behind this.
Uh—What were we talking about?
;)
“By consolidating, in my opinion, we risk losing a concentration on national security, “
Fair enough. But my opinion is that these days it makes no sense to try to distinguish between CONUS-originating threats and foreign-based ones.
Thus it makes sense to better integrate our first responders to both. I think we’re in more agreement than I first did.

“Whats not to like?”
Obama will give the job to a political hack and not an expert.
