The blogosphere has, once again, proven itself a worthy investigator. Unsurprisingly, that same investigatory spirit is nearly nonexistent in the mainstream media.
This morning on Fox and Friends, Michelle Malkin gave an interview on a story that she and HotAir have been following for several days (video embedded to the right). Apparently, many of the Chrysler dealers that have been chosen for closing have made a habit of donating money to Republicans, or nobody at all and those who donate to Democrats are miraculously safe.
Why is it miraculous? The odds are massively against this pattern emerging to the tune of 1/10,000,000 of 1% [h/t Doug Ross]. By comparison, you have a better chance of being struck by lightning this year ...

Just a heads up that there are some errors in the statistics provided in the RLJ analysis on that page. The blogger applies overall population percentages to local markets. This creates a problem. For example, in a random pull, the odds that all three dealers in Bentonville will be among the 789 closed are .25*.25*.25 = .015. But we know in reality that at least one of those dealerships will remain open, so the population percentages do not apply. The odds of the RLJ dealership remaining open in Bentonville are 1 in 3 if done randomly. This of course ignores any factors such as sales and performance. Given some of the money behind this group (Bob Johnson is a billionaire) these dealerships might be better capitalized and better performing than some of their competitors. There may be corruption or it may be performance based. Further investigation will tell.
Went through it and WOW! This is VERY damning, clear cut, intentialy biased action. The reasons given by Chrysler which are clearly stated to be "sales volume, customer service scores, local market share and average household income in the immediate area" are totally bogus. In fact the only stats that even begin to show any kibnd of corrilation are...
the odds that any, randomly selected, single dealership would remain open is roughly 75%. The odds that a single dealership would close is roughly 25%.
In the Bentonville, AR territory, the odds that RLJ
is RLJ-McLarty-Landers, which owns six Chrysler dealerships. All six dealerships are on "the safe list."
RLJ's owners "are Steve Landers (long-time car dealer, 4th-generation dealer), Thomas "Mack" McLarty (former Chief of Staff for President Clinton), and Robert Johnson (founder of Black Entertainment Television and co-owner of the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats)... McLarty campaigned for Obama in 2008, and Johnson has given countless amounts of money to Democrats over the years."
would remain while its competition gets axed is
.75 * .25 * .25 = .046875 (4.6%).
In Huntsville, AL, the odds are .75 * .25 * .25 = .046875.
In Branson, MO, .75 * .25 *.25 *.25 = .01171875.
In Lee's Summit, MO, .75 * .25 *.25 *.25 *.25 = .0029296875.
In Shreveport, LA, .75 * .25 *.75 = .140625.
What are the odds of all of these RLJ dealerships remaining open while their competitors are wiped out? Maybe 1/10,000,000 of 1%. Yes, that's one ten-millionth of one percent."
Ten million to one. And the communists freak show in dee-cee will, without so much as batting an eye, declare "partisan politics, greedy republicans" and will be tossing packs of race cards in all directions.
Why? Because that is just the kind of scum the communists are and being drunk with percieved "power" to "rule" they are over-reaching to the point of falling flat on their "collective" faces.
See post 42 on problems with the probabilities cited. Also, see this information from 538.com
http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2009/05/news-flash-car-dealers-are-republicans.html
Overall, 88 percent of the contributions from car dealers went to Republican candidates and just 12 percent to Democratic candidates. By comparison, the list of dealers on Doug Rosss list gave 92 percent of their money to Republicans
The WSJ/Best of the Web carried this story yesterday. They said that if the story isn’t true, we will be hearing the shrill denials from the liberal Obama supporters any minute.
Which means MSM will report it in about, ohhhh, 19 months?

Furor grows over partisan car dealer closings
Which means that we will have to prove it, before any of this breaks through to the public. Still, it is pretty damning that the press has not come up with a single Obama donor to refute the claim.
