Marine Aviator's Memorial Day Wave Off
The Patriot Post ^ | May 28, 2009 | Mark Alexander

"Only under the administration of a former 'community organizer,' a product of the corrupt Chicago political machine, who never served a day of his life in uniform, could a 20-year retired Marine Corps Officer be prohibited from visiting the Arlington National Cemetery resting place of his father, a 30-year retired Marine Corps Officer with distinguished combat service, on the most hallowed of days for our fallen and deceased military servicemen and women -- Memorial Day."

Inching their way through traffic that morning Mike and his wife made it to second in line at the entrance checkpoint, with an Arlington National Cemetery access pass and a DoD military officer vehicle sticker clearly displayed on his windshield, when they were abruptly waved off and directed to leave the area immediately. Apparently, Barack Hussein Obama's motorcade was en route for the ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns and the area was being locked down for security.

It is unAmerican to shut down an entire area so some politician may have absolute pre-eminence.

What a travesty - particularly since Obama isn't worthy to walk on that sacred ground in the first place!

Unfortunately, this happens a lot around Washington, D.C. When Bush 41 was President, a favorite Chinese restaurant of my uncle’s and other FBI agents’ was pretty much shut down during the President’s dinners there. In fact, the restaurant owner was required by Secret Service to install laminated glass and more secure doors. Although he was not reimbursed by the government, the owner told my uncle that he received a very big “tip” from President Bush after the new equipment was installed. Pretty class act.

Among other things, the article says: “The McGinns were not turned away on previous Memorial Days when President George Bush arrived to place a wreath at the Tomb, but a lot has changed in the last year.”

President Bush had security, but Barack Obama has a LOT of security. Bush also visited Normandy on D-Day, where he mixed with the crowds, and even waited in line to use the porta potty. Obama requested that all other visitors should be banned during his visit with the President of France. And apparently not even the Queen of England is welcome.

Yes, it could just be Obama’s security detail that did this. But there’s a whole new level of security. It’s more like Stalin than any previous American president. And Obama doesn’t mind a bit. Because he’s IMPORTANT.

Nothing new.

Whenever “the one” is anywhere, general aviation business is shut down for a 30 mile radius of where ever B.O. is for as long as he is there even if it is a matter of days. These are called TFR Temporary Flight Restrictions.

In fact, the restaurant owner was required by Secret Service

Whenever I see that "required" by the SS I wonder, where in the hell do they get that authority? Do they just barge through life saying that you have to get out of the way? I would like to see the law that says they have that power. I suppose there is, but I would like to read it.

No big deal, just the Secret Service doing its duty to protect our president. And he his our president, like it or not. And any truly patriotic American citizen will not resent anything the Secret Service does to protect the commander in chief. There's a lot the president has done so far that's we believe harmful and as the loyal opposition we should speak loudly and incessantly against his many errors, but no need to pin a nonsense complaint like this on him. It just dilutes the effect of valid criticism for substantive policy mistakes.

And the mentioned late Marine aviator Colonel McGinn should be indeed be honored for his service and heroism in Vietnam, but I just don't see any fault by President Obama on this matter.

You don’t really believe what you just posted, now do you?

Do you now accept that the Secret Service is a Praetorian Guard that can simply make up its own rules?

Civil liberties do not suddenly wither and die because the Secret Service happens to be in your neighborhood.

Nor is it forbidden, not yet anyway, to object to their hamhanded tactics on behalf of the Anointed one.

Really? ANYTHING?

What if they decide that all commercial aviation should be suspended in any state where the Pres__ent is located? What if they decide that nobody may drive a car in any city where he is? What if they declare that the White House may no longer be visited by ordinary citizens? What if they institute a shoot-on-sight policy for any peon citizen coming within fifty feet of him?

Reasonable precautions to protect the President are fine. Unreasonable ones are not. These restrictions are not remotely reasonable, and I say the President is a despicable coward for allowing his Secret Service to inflict them on the citizenry. He could change them with the stroke of a pen if he cared to.

When it comes to the president’s safety, the Secret Service has long limited citizens’ movement around the president. When President Reagan came to my town 25 years ago, they certainly curtailed our right of free movement. It doesn’t matter if it’s Reagan or Obama, their job is to do what they deem necessary to protect the POTUS.

They probably worded it like this, “You will never see President Bush in here again unless you do the following...”

Fortunately, President Bush was kind enough to avoid weekends but it still hurt the restaurant’s business. After all, even getting take-out was tough with the three or four black Suburbans in front (the restaurant was in a mall in Virginia).

When it comes to security, the Secret Service is in charge and the president is literally just along for the ride. Is he or any president really aware of what the Secret Service is doing on such occasions? I'm not sure they are. I fear President Obama will have enough problems handling North Korea without expecting him to plan and oversee the details of his travel and security.

While the SS requiring a private business to invest its own money seems highly inappropriate, the flip side is that presidential clientele brings in far more business. On balance the restaurant undoubtedly made more $$$ when it was known as 41’s fav haunt.

“When it comes to security, the Secret Service is in charge”

Err, the Prez is the Commander-in-Chief. The Secret Service or any other Govt. Agency will obey any Lawful Order he gives. If not they could be relievrd on the spot. So, when it gets “down to the nut cuttin’” nobody but the Prez is in charge. The buck stops there.

All presidents are theoretically in charge, but I doubt many of them have intervened against what the SS wants done.

Horse s#!t. They may be fond of saying so, but that doesn't make it true. The only constraint on the President's direction of the Secret Service is the fear of investigation or impeachment by Congress.
