An Apocalypse Sun?

Climate Change: NASA predicts the lowest sunspot activity since 1928. Is a major solar storm in the offing? While we worry about man-made warming, the sun may soon show us who's boss. It's the sort of news that makes one's eyes glaze over. "If our prediction is correct, Solar Cycle 24 will have a peak sunspot number of 90, the lowest of any cycle since 1928 when Solar Cycle 16 peaked at 78," said Doug Biesecker of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Space Weather Prediction Center. Yes, space has weather, in the form of solar radiation that varies with solar activity in the form of sunspots and solar flares. Biesecker heads an NOAA panel that keeps an eye on such things and released this latest report.

The National Research Council has estimated that such a storm would play havoc with our power grid, resulting in “large-scale blackouts affecting more than 130 million people (in the U.S.) and (exposing) more than 350 major transformers to the risk of permanent damage.”

NASA says this solar cycle will peak in 2013. The Mayan calendar identifies Dec. 12, 2012, as the end of the world as we know it. Seems to us we might better spend our money protecting our power grid and high-tech infrastructure against such a possibility rather than worrying about the emission standards for our cars.

That, and stock up on sunscreen.

A recent report by by the National Academy of Sciences found that if such a storm occurred today, it could cause up to $2 trillion in damages to society's high-tech infrastructure.

Chump change compared to the $200 trillion the President just burned in the global financial markets.

As long as it waits to wipe out the power grid until AFTER I pick up that manual pump for my well-head...

Global warming, you may have noticed, seemingly stopped dead in its tracks in 1998.

This can't be true! Hansen and his media sycophants keep telling us this has been the hottest decade ever! They wouldn't lie, now would they??? Hmmmm?

NASA does not know when Solar Cycle 24 will begin and has no
methodology for predicting how many sunspots it will have.

‘Quiet Sun’ baffling astronomers
FROM APRIL 21, 2009
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/8008473.stm

The Sun is the dimmest it has been for nearly a century.

There are no sunspots, very few solar flares - and our nearest star is the quietest it has been for a very long time.

The observations are baffling astronomers, who are due to study new pictures of the Sun, taken from space, at the UK National Astronomy Meeting.

The Darkened Sun, and Bloody Moon
The prophet Joel claimed the sun will turn to darkness, and the moon will become like blood, before the arrival of the day of the Lord. Perhaps he observed an eclipse of the sun, that had turned day into night, and at another time, the moon had become blood-red during a lunar eclipse. He perceived a great significance in these signs, as both the sun and the moon were appointed for signs, seasons, days, and years in Genesis 1:14.

And God said, Let there be lights in the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years.

The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.

“That 1859 event electrified transmission cables, started fires in telegraph offices and produced Northern Lights bright enough to read a newspaper by.”

I've read by the light of the Aurora Borealis several times. In the Arctic, at the peak of the solar cycle, it's not uncommon for the aurora to be bright & very spectacular.
