THIS page has long supported full same-sex marriage, and still does. We hope our readers don't sign the petitions to put the new civil-unions law on the November ballot. But we condemn tactics to make citizens personally fearful to sign this or any other petition.
Fear is the essence of what one gay-rights group is encouraging. You can see their Web page at www.whosigned.org. It announces an intention to offer a computer-searchable list of everyone who signed the petition for Referendum 71. The Web site says innocuously that this is to let voters have "a way to check that the public record of their advocacy is correct." And that, of course, is not why they are doing it.

This is a new tactic in Washington politics, and a disgusting one. Intimidation needs to be condemned, and particularly by those who would immediately benefit from it.

Pure intimidation by the homosexual creeps. Voting has always been a sacred right and something very private. Funny that now a group of perverts who demand privacy for their bedroom antics now want to publicly humiliate people for defending family values and kids.

Alright, Seattle Times...let’s fill DC with a million or so people on the fourth and show these bozos they can’t keep pushing us around...
The right response is for each person listed on that site to send a letter to the editor: “Yes, I signed the petition, and here’s why ...” Instead of backing down when the gay mofia tries thuggish tactics, we need to stand up proudly and announce our beliefs. I doubt that many people are ashamed to hold traditional values. The problem is that most of us are so conflict averse that the thugs among us are using that politeness as a weapon against us. We can stop them from using that sleazy tactic, and we should.
Does Washington have a state district attorney? He/she should make an announcement regarding intimidation and harrassment and reassure the public that it won’t be tolerated.
He could, and he could borrow the language for his statement from the registered sex offender websites.
Oh absolutely. Why should the we citizens of WA have any say in the matter when we have the superior intellects of the Seattle Times to decide what is best for all of us. And I am quite sure the savants at the ST are not influenced in any way by the fact homo marriage is constantly rejected when submitted to the voters. Even in weird CA!
Typical Liberal elitism.
Something to be aware of...
