Just days after he delivered a fiery and well-received sermon in San Francisco, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright has one prominent defender here following his latest controversy -- an interview in which he claims "the Jewish vote" is controlling President Barack Obama.
Wright's longtime friend, the Rev. Amos Brown -- a former San Francisco supervisor and pastor of the landmark Third Baptist Church here -- is coming to the defense of the controversial Chicago-based pastor on the heels of the firestorm, saying that Wright has been misunderstood and unfairly been targeted by conservative media.
Wright made headlines following a recent sit-down with the Daily Press in which he took President Obama -- who attended his church for years -- to task for his leadership on issues regarding Israel. While saying he still loves Obama like "a son" and considers him to be like one of his own kids, Wright said he believes "them Jews" won't let him near the President and are controlling Obama in the White House.
"The Jewish vote, the AIP (American Israel Public Affairs Committee)'' he said, "..will not let him him to talk to somebody who calls a spade what it is. ... I said from the beginning: He's a politician; I'm a pastor. He's got to do what politicians do."
Wright's chief beef: that Obama should have sent a delegation to the World Conference on Racism held recently in Geneva, Switzerland, and he suggested the President backed off for fear of offending Jews and Israel.
"Ethnic cleansing is going on in Gaza. Ethnic cleansing (by) the Zionist is a sin and a crime against humanity, and they don't want Barack talking like that because that's anti-Israel," Wright said.
But Brown -- who just hosted Wright for a sermon...

Misunderstood anti-Semite. How’s that?
He’s just a poor, misunderstood, racist antisemite who ministered to Barak Hussein Obama for 20 years.
Weeellllllll, that choice of words certainly presents a rich target.
That is NOT the same thing as saying "the Jewish vote/voters".
It is an antisemitic conspiracy theory that they own the media and are pulling the White House's strings.
Maybe he wouldn’t be “misunderstood” if he didn’t mumble his words?
‘Misunderstood anti-Semite. How’s that?
As long as he doesn’t shoot up a Holocaust museum, I guess it’s worth a try. /s
Yes. Those feet of his are difficult to talk over. :)
If this was 1939 and he was white, he would have been welcomed into the Nazi Party, arms wide open...
Rev. Jeremiah Wright: anti-Semite or misunderstood?
One does not cancel the other...
Antisemite.
But, they have no problem tossing the word "Jews" around. And, while "Jew" can have a completely benign meaning, it can also take on the feel and intentions of a pejorative term for people of the Hebrew faith.
Maybe Mr. Wright, and his ilk, should refrain from using that word, and we'll refrain from using their word. Just a thought.
Like and kind to Archie Bunker?
Liberals = "They are misunderstood!"
I understand. He's anti-semitic.
HE understands that also.
“Black people say that whites can’t use the “N” word, because whites don’t use it with the love or understanding in the way they use it amongst themselves.”
Has anyone heard urban blacks use the word “nigger” in regular street conversation?
Trust me, I have.
And I’ve not heard a tone of love or understanding when I’ve heard that word used by one black to another.
Wright is a Pseudo Preacher, who is a Black Racist/anti-Semite hater of America.
He is as crazy and anti-Semite as the Kook who took his gun to the Holocaust Museum.
Since he is a Black Racist, he gets a pass from society.
