The trend is buried deep in United States census data: seemingly minute deviations in the proportion of boys and girls born to Americans of Chinese, Indian and Korean descent.
In those families, if the first child was a girl, it was more likely that a second child would be a boy, according to recent studies of census data. If the first two children were girls, it was even more likely that a third child would be male.
Demographers say the statistical deviation among Asian-American families is significant, and they believe it reflects not only a preference for male children, but a growing tendency for these families to embrace sex-selection techniques, like in vitro fertilization and sperm sorting, or abortion.
New immigrants typically transplant some of their customs and culture to the United States — from tastes in food and child-rearing practices to their emphasis on education or economic advancement and the elevated social and economic status of males. The appeal to immigrants by clinics specializing in sex selection caused some controversy a decade ago.

In general, more boys than girls are born in the United States, by a ratio of 1.05 to 1. But among American families of Chinese, Korean and Indian descent, the likelihood of having a boy increased to 1.17 to 1 if the first child was a girl, according to the Columbia economists. If the first two children were girls, the ratio for a third child was 1.51 to 1 — or about 50 percent greater — in favor of boys.
Studies have not detected a similar preference for males among Japanese-Americans.

I am of Indian ethnicity and know that at least one of my female cousins was aborted because of her sex -- and her parents were supposed to be Catholics. An aunt who bore "too many" girls was criticized for it. (Besides the fact that there is nothing wrong with girls, it is the father that is to "blame".)
What a BS title. “Pregnant Asians killing more girls babies in US” is more truthful.
Mark Steyn pointed this out before. For Asian women the right to choose means the right to abort other women. It is disturbing and sad. It will be interesting to see how China deals with the end results of having lots of men with no women.

Just wondering aloud, but it would be interesting to see the reaction to liberals if white, christian farmers began aborting children that were girls to breed a work force for the family farm.
It might be the first time they see abortion as the disgusting thing that it is. I can here it now, “These racist, intolerant, haters are breeding a small army for who knows what. They should not be allowed to get pregnant. A judge should castrate that father before they attack others with their brood racist white supremacist boys.
The farmers reply (which would just infuriate the left, “I thought in America a woman has a choice. It’s her body. If she doesn’t want to waste the months she has of child-bearing years on birthing girls, then that is her constitutional right. We just exercising our choice to give us the family that we want. And we don’t want any girls.”

An article I read pointed out the same fact. It also mentioned the Chinese Government was concerned with a potential up rise in homosexuality.
A shocking demographic trend right here in the United States. I find the experience you describe in your own family to be deeply troubling for me as a Catholic. You may wish to share with them the fact that they have excommunicated themselves by their tragic actions. They should consult a priest, confess and repent this deplorable sin, and do penance before receiving any sacraments. May God have mercy on them for this horrible sin and may God bless and keep the daughter they murdered.
I know many many grade school age Chinese girls in NY who were adopted out by Americans. They are uniformly SMART and delightful.
I don't fear a society that throws away its most precious asset.
