A former Lincoln Public Schools bus driver and pastor of a north Lincoln church has been charged in Council Bluffs, Iowa, with sexually assaulting four people, including a young girl.
Lincoln police arrested Efrain Umaña, 53, on June 11 for extradition, said Capt. Anthony Butler.
Umaña, 1906 Hartley St., is pastor of El Nuevo Nacimiento Church at 2441 N. Ninth St., according to the churchs Web site.
He faces charges in Pottawattamie County, Iowa. According to court documents filed there, police say Umaña forced a 10- to 11-year-old girl to have sex with him in a Council Bluffs church in 2003.
Police also say Umaña went to a Council Bluffs woman's house in 2007 and forced her to have sex with him while her husband was away.
And, they say, Umaña allegedly kissed women against their will in two 2008 incidents.
Umaña worked as a bus driver for Lincoln Public Schools from 1992 to 1997.
Nancy Biggs, LPS associate superintendent for human resources, declined to comment on why he was terminated, but said it had nothing to do with inappropriate touching or behavior with students.
If we thought he shouldnt be around kids we wouldnt have allowed him around children, Biggs said.
On Nov. 8, a trial board with the Church of God found Umaña guilty of unbecoming ministerial conduct, according to court documents filed in Lancaster County. At the time, he was pastor of a church at 1305 N. 52nd Ave. in Lincoln that was affiliated with the International General Assembly of the Church of God.
As a result of the trial boards finding, Umañas ministerial credentials were revoked for at least a year.
Next time they are going to get mad at him as well! Not much of a F&&& church.
