Millions of Iranians take to the streets to defy a theocratic dictatorship that, among its other finer qualities, is a self-declared enemy of America and the tolerance and liberties it represents. The demonstrators are fighting on their own, but they await just a word that America is on their side.
And what do they hear from the president of the United States? Silence. Then, worse. Three days in, the president makes clear his policy: continued "dialogue" with their clerical masters...Dialogue with a regime that is breaking heads, shooting demonstrators, expelling journalists, arresting activists. Engagement with -- which inevitably confers legitimacy upon -- leaders elected in a process that begins as a sham (only four handpicked candidates permitted out of 476) and ends in overt rigging.
Then, after treating this popular revolution as an inconvenience to the real business of Obama-Khamenei negotiations, the president speaks favorably of "some initial reaction from the Supreme Leader that indicates he understands the Iranian people have deep concerns about the election."
"Supreme Leader"? Note the abject solicitousness with which the president confers this honorific on a clerical dictator who, even as his minions attack demonstrators, offers to examine some returns in some electoral districts -- a farcical fix....

Hope and Change, the Obama mantra
not needed in Iran, they already have the government that Obama wishes for this country. Thus his present vote, when it comes to his support for the democracy seekers in Iran.
Hopey-changey?? No Freedom For You!!
As I would expect from Krauthammer, excellently said. And, I would add, even many liberals are upset about this.
Gotta Love It!
Change you can believe in... initiated by George Bush planting the seeds of democracy right next door....
And this guy cannot support the extension and expansion of freedoms encompassed in democracy?
The outcome of Iran will totally shift world politics - assuming democracy takes root- as I am sure hamas and hezbollah will fall, Syria will have problems. All the dicktaters are carefully watching the outcome....as others will follow.
Islam itself is not prepared for this.....nor is Captain JackBarack Sparrow-Obama
Thank you again, George Bush, for providing the kindling next door and for being one of the true originators of “change you can believe in”
Excellent article!
Too bad that Obama is blowing it now.
I fear many will die today...
I fear many will die today... and more will just "disappear". I'm glad they know the American people are with them - that might help.
Give amnesty to illegals.
Too bad for him.
