Waxman-Markey climate bill up for crucial House vote on Friday, says Al Gore
The Examiner, June 23, 2009

“For those who care about the global warming catastrophe -- this is the moment,” Al Gore told thousands of environmental activists Tuesday night during a nationwide conference call.

On Friday, The American Clean Energy & Security Act (Waxman-Markey) is coming up for a House vote. Gore’s job was to rally the foot soldiers and enlist their help in passing the legislation, which he acknowledged could come down to a narrow margin. “This bill isn’t the last word, but it needs to be the first word,” Gore said firmly. “It’s important to send a signal around the world that the U.S. is serious about climate change. Now is the time -- before world leaders gather in Copenhagen this December to begin to solve the climate crisis.”

At home, the Waxman-Markey bill will boost the economy and create jobs in every state, said the former vice president and Nobel laureate. This bill and the stimulus package are the foundation for creating 1.7 million new jobs in the U.S. and improving opportunities for low-income families, he said, besides achieving reductions in greenhouse gases the scientists say are necessary. Although the opposition has been distributing misinformation about what the bill would cost, Gore said the Congressional Budge Office has determined the cost would be the same as a postage stamp a day for the average household.

Hailing the bill as “one of the most important pieces of legislation ever introduced to Congress,” he has said it carries the moral equivalence of the civil rights legislation of the 1960s and the Marshall Plan of the late 1940s. “By re-powering America with a transition to a clean energy economy and ending our dangerous over-reliance on carbon-based fuels, which is the common thread running through all three of these crises, this bill will simultaneously address the climate crisis, the economic crisis and the national security threats that stem from our dependence on foreign oil,” Gore had told the subcommittee on energy and environment in April.

Tonight his message was one of urgency as he implored activists to stay on the phone line and record a message for their representatives.

what follows is my letter to my Congress Critter, Lee Terry, NE...

The Waxman Markey Bill, set for a Friday Vote is lunacy.

Since mz Pelosi thinks it can be passed THIS WEEK; may I suggest a was to cripple or kill it? ...Get a number of your Republican colleges to publicly, Very Publicly, state that You and
they would be willing to support this Bill, as a valid experiment, with only 2 SIMPLE Amendments. Amendments based on the concept of “Leading by Example”.

#1.ALL Elected members of the Federal Government, current and Retired shall live under ALL the mandatory reductions in greenhouse-gas emissions in this Bill. Failure to do so, will be fined/punished at the maximum rates for any others covered by This Bill. Cases/charges filed against those of the Elected Class SHALL always move to the front of the Docket in the appropriate Court.

#2. The District of Columbia SHALL achieve it’s Goals BEFORE any other locality is investigated or fined. “Locality” shall include A State, City, Town, County, S.I.D or any other government entity.

Offer Pelosi and the rest of the Privilege-chasing Elitist Left the chance to “Lead by Example”; they will FOLD!

I know, you have only Days to do it. But THIS is Important.

Public Servant shall be PUBLIC MASTER.
Do as I say, not as I Do.
Obey, without Question....That isn’t my America!

I wonder if the entire health care ‘debate’ is just misdirection to draw attention away from this monstrosity.

If the people really knew about this environmentalist wacko cap and tax bill, they would be raising hell in the streets given the poor state of the economy. Congress is going to be voting on it in a couple of days. The health care destruction bill is months away.

This bill I hate more than any bill that has gone through congress. To me it is the biggest waste of money that we have ever spent in the history of the United States of America!!! I mean it too...nothing even comes close to this wasted bill.

"...climate change bill that would establish a complex cap-and-trade system to limit the nation's greenhouse gas emissions, a priority for President Obama. The House Rules Committee unveiled the latest version of the bill, which weighs in at 1,201 pages."

I'd love to know how many legislators have read this pile of crap. If this passes, the private sector will have to hire 87 gazillion more non-productive people for compliance.

I'd like to ask the Obama Administration to please think of the Chinese businessmen this will effect. They've been celebrating so much over your decisions this one will turn them into full fledged alcoholics from the blowout that they'll have over this one. A person can only take so much of their competition's stupidity.
