‘Waxman-Markey Just Plain Sucks’ [Steve Hayward]

The environmentalist case against Waxman-Markey. Some of the arguments are bad, but it's nice to watch the greens cut each other up. Indeed, if Bush and the GOP Congress had proposed this bill back around 2005, the greens would have lined up unanimously in opposition (with the possible exception of Environmental Defense, which will endorse anything that has "trading" in it). This may mark a new high water mark for environmental hypocrisy.

Under this bill in five years it will be illegal to repair washing machines, dryers and dish washers. The Maytag Repairman will be trading his uniform for prison orange.

Thanks for posting the phone numbers and encouraging calls/letters.

I called a Dem from my state (although adjacent district), Steve Driehaus. He ran as a fiscal conservative. His office said he was "reviewing the bill". I reminded them it was over 1,000 pages and couldn't possibly be read in time. Vote no. I sent the following letter also:

Dear Congressman Driehaus:

I am writing to you regarding the 1,000-plus-page American Clean Energy and Security Act (H.R. 2454) being rushed to a vote by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi today. Here we go again. Ramming a 1,000 plus page bill, with potentially huge negative ramifications to a fragile economy, to a vote without its being read, vetted or justified makes no sense at all.

Congressman, you are from a conservative district and you ran on a fiscally conservative platform. I do hope that you recognize this as you prepare for this vote today. This issue is a perfect example of the theme behind the various tea party gatherings this year. I am sure that Congressman Chabot is watching your vote very carefully, and is prepared to use it to unseat you in the Fall of 2010 if you vote against the best interests of your constituents back here in Ohio.

This issue is vitally important which is why I chose to write you. Thank you for your consideration of this matter.

Good. I called and wrote mine too, but he’s so far left he leans that way when he walks.

"Why? I came into this game for the action, the excitement. Go anywhere, travel light, get in, get out, wherever there's trouble, a man alone. Now they got the whole country sectioned off, you can't make a move without a form."

Those who prefer to hold out hope for abrupt political change have no choice but to oppose Waxman-Markey.

You mean abrupt political change like electing a Marxist president of the US? You're a fool, Mr. Environmentalist, if believe this isn't the zenith of your political power on this bogus issue. Whether it passes or not, the public around the world is waking up to your scam.
