CHICAGO (AP)—When it comes to the electing players to the Baseball Hall of Fame, no new guidelines are needed to deal with the so-called Steroid Era because voters are already asked to consider a player’s integrity and character.

That’s what the Chicago chapter of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America decided Friday.

The chapter will not forward any measures or recommendations to the national chapter of the baseball writers group, which will meet at next month’s All-Star Game in St. Louis. While some Chicago writers said Friday they’re frustrated at the idea of voting for people who may or may not have cheated, the majority said common sense is enough to guide their votes.

Common sense indeed. Mark McGwire, who I still like on a personal level but does NOT belong on The Hall only got 21.9% of votes on the the last ballot. 75% is needed for induction.

In other steroid news Royals pitcher Sidney Ponson tested positive for a stimulant (Phentermine) at The World Baseball Classic. He will be treated as a first time offender with no punishment. I'm sure it was just a case of "a friend" giving it to him and he didn't know he couldn't take it. /s

BASEBALL PING LIST

If you would like to be on the ping list let me know.

This will be a medium volumn ping list during the baseball season and a low volumn ping list when all life stops in late October.

In Ponson's case, I don't think we can rule out diet pills. Nor should they restrict them.

He is 1-5 with a 7.27 ERA for the Royals, and is currently on the disabled list because of a strained right elbow.

I guess for him it was a case of having nothing to lose.

Mark Grace should get in automatically. There were times in the Cubs’ locker room after a game, when Sammy Sosa and his posse had their radio blasting. Grace would walk in and shout, “Turn that sh&t off!”

So, a non-story story. Thanks, AP.
