The New Culture of Corruption
Democrats step up their corruption game
By ROBERT A. GEORGE
Updated 7:45 PM EDT, Fri, Jun 26, 2009

New joke going around Washington: "Republicans hike the Appalachian Trail; Democrats hike your taxes. Either way, someone's getting screwed." As, the old saying goes -- some of the truest things are said in jest.

Washington Republicans -- more in the minority than they have been in decades -- are somewhat haplessly hoping that the Democrats mess up their own policies, rather than figure out how to stop them themselves. So, in the meantime, they keep themselves busy by getting busy -- usually with women not their own wives.

So, that means the Democrats are hard at work doing the business of governing, right? Alas, only partly right. They have actually taken fully the "responsibilities" that Republicans had when they were in the majority for twelve years that ended in 2006. Yes, that means the Democrats are now the ones in charge of the "culture of corruption."

The poster child for the new world order? House Ways & Means Chairman Charlie Rangel. He's been under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for close to a year now on a whole passel of charges. This week, the committee announced a new line of inquiry, involving trips down to the Caribbean, which may have been corporately-funded. Especially embarrassing is that it also involve four other Democrats with significant seniority and influence:

In addition to Rangel, other lawmakers who participated in the Caribbean trips include Reps. Carolyn Kirkpatrick (D-Mich.), Donald Payne (D-N.J.), Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) and Delegate Donna Christian-Christensen (D-V.I.).

All five Democrats are members of the Congressional Black Caucus, and two — Rangel and Thompson — wield full committee gavels at Ways and Means and Homeland Security, respectively.

Tag line anyone?

I’ve never seen an administration this corrupt in my entire lifetime. (Teenagers call me “pops”). Of course, I’ve never had to deal with Communists and Marxists in my own government before.

Actually, most Democratic administrations have been far more corrupt that Republicans but hey, the press loves them. Sometimes I wonder just how some of these sleazy characters get elected - but them just look at the electorate.

We are not far from a “buy your way in” via the democratic process. When that does happen (and it sure looks like it will happen soon), then things will go downhill very fast.

Actually, I sense that it is happening as we speak - Obama seems to be on a very distructive path (of the US)...

What I don’t understand is why people are so apathetic when he is undermining the Constitution, bankrupting the country, and implementing Socialism. I guess we are just a bunch of sheeple after all...

It won’t matter how corrupt the Dems are because the RNC and similar groups are not exploiting it.

A few good ads focusing on the Dems corruption and ruination of America would eventually wake up the sleeping voters. They won’t be getting the truth from the MSM.

But Steele and his ilk are just sitting back silent. They only condemn someone like a Rush Limbaugh for “being too harsh and strident”, but leave the Democrats untouched.

2010 could be a great year, but with this inaction, it will be a bust. In fact, the republicans will probably lose seats if they keep this up.

Your joke about Polosi may actually be a catalysis to wake up the sleeping giant! She is so far left that even the Californians are beginning to wonder about her (not counting SF of course). I do wish that more people watched C-SPAN rather than watching soap operas during the day - maybe there would be a chance of turning things around.

We had a cat whose kidneys were failing so we sent it in for catalysis.

Didn't work.

Repubs won't use it because they're afraid of their own dirty laundry. Both parties are a complete failure at representing the people.

I forget where I saw the quote, but somebody said that corruption was an essential part of Marxism’s existence.
