H.R. 2454, or where "56 states" derives
Library of Congress - GPO ^ | 6/29/09 | Henry Waxman

Posted on 07/01/2009 11:30:50 AM PDT by Sam_Damon

Thanks to page 133 of H.R. 2454, I now understand where our esteemed President came up with the notion the U.S.A has 56 states:

2) in section 791(9), by striking ‘‘The term ‘State’ includes the District of Columbia.’’ and inserting ‘‘The term ‘State’ includes the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.’’

(3) in section 793(c)— (A) in paragraph (2)(A), by striking ‘‘51 States’’ and inserting ‘‘56 States’’;

I encourage all visiting to download the bill and discover other gems of legislative detail in this insane piece of legislation. There is no other way to describe this.

Have a nice day, all.

The problem is that there is 50 States and then the District of Columbia and Protectorates. The District and the Protectorates do not qualify as States, under an definition.

Just saying they are don’t make it so.

Hey, there may be some truth buried in all this. Follow me here. My son started a collection of all the quarters issued honoring each of the states. Well, one would assume that would be 50 of them. Recently, I have seen a quarter with the district of columbia on the back and this week, I got a Puerto Rico quarter. Keep an eye out. The DC quarter has Duke Ellington standing next to a piano.

Odd, considering all the flags for sale at my local Walmart for the holiday weekend still have only fifty stars on the blue field. I guess maybe the process to admit a state has been abbreviated, eliminated since last November. [/sarc]

Please don’t take it as a “correction”.
I just thought that if your son was collecting them you might like to know.

“increasing the numbers on SCOTUS so he can pack the court...
Hard to imagine this really happening - FDR tried, but that proposal failed (see: Switch in time that saved Nine), and the number never went over 9. “

Back then in the 30s FDR had to contend with a Dem Congress that was, by and large, has a sense of patriotic duty. There were no avowed socialists, just some leaning that way.

Now we have filth like Sanders who is a Communist and others who have no qualms about doing it in order to get their “agenda”.

Lincoln: “... he used to liken the case to that of the boy who, when asked how many legs his calf would have if he called its tail a leg, replied, ” Five,” to which the prompt response was made that calling the tail a leg would not make it a leg.”

You recall correctly.

In the very same statement he said that "we are going to ___ (I think Oregon) tomorrow and my staff tells me that I won't be allowed to go to Hawaii or Alaska."

So taken in full context, this would mean 60 States.

My view of this gaff is that he certainly knows there are 50 states, if I slapped him around a little to get his attention, he could answer the question correctly.

Having said that, this was a prime example of Zero's mouth not being well connected to his brain.

You're 60, I'm 61. Do you remember a short time ago Zero fired Walpin the Inspector General for Americorp who is 77. When there was a stir about the firing the excuse was that Walpin had "seem confused" at a meeting on May 21st.

By that standard, Zero should be fired.

No, I do stand corrected. I thought that when they trotted out quarters for the states, I thought they meant just the states. Didn’t account for territories getting their panties in a wad for not being counted in. Plus for a long time, dc has been pushing for statehood and with this admin, there are new surprises daily.

The additional 7 “states” are not geographic. They are based in the DUmocrat tradition...

State of DENIAL, CONFUSION, OBSTRUCTION, MENTAL ILLNESS, DRUNKENESS, SUBVERSION, and SURRENDER.
