Week 182 roll call of our 9 Patriots included Legionnaires Dave (Army WWII) and friend Janet, retired Marine and VFW member Halsey, Lurker Bill, and FReepers Fraxinus, {Mrs} Trooprally, aka [Mrs] T, [Mr]Trooprally aka [Mr] T, Eager, and myself, GunsAreOk.
A great Freep with cool weather considering the time of the year. We arrived at 10:00AM as did the moonbats. Three of their five who slunk away at 11:10; so, to honor the holiday and to contrast ourselves with their poor performance, we remained until 12 noon, thirty minutes past our normal time.
Even the local transit busses, (the Metrobus system) were decked out with American flags. I thought the car drivers passing by as well were more patriotic than usual though supporters always outnumber detractors. The group agreed that the thumbs up to thumbs down ratio was around eight to one. Particularly neat was hearing four young men in a BMW say Were glad those other folks (the moonbats) have left. During the freep, Mr. Trooprally saw four different drivers salute.
A lady walking by asked how she could show appreciation for the troops. I suggested thanking them in person, perhaps treating a soldier to a meal, and becoming active here on FreeRepublic. Janet suggested that she and the rest of the public, including veterans, spend just an hour a month to support the troops.
Dave, an 82-year-old World War II veteran who still does physical work part time and was recently pronounced in good health, had some interesting observations for our time. He noted that too many foreign cars and too few American made cars pass the corner. In general, he said, too little is made in America and too few young people learn trades. He wonders how, with our depleted industrial base and the lack of mental and physical fitness among so much of the population today, would we be able to defend ourselves in a world war today as we did so well during WWII? But by their actions and valor, our military brings freedom abroad and should inspire us at home.

Yeah, team! Go America!
Another great report - thanks for filling in this week.
[Mr] T
Welcome to Free Republic! A good day to join. Let us pray that God continues to bless our country. Obama is hosting 1200 military folks on the south lawn of the White House tonight. Maybe he will undergo a conversion to patriotism.
Thanks for the compliments!
