HOWEVER -- You both ignored my real point: multiple, simultaneous fires (at a near-identical stage of development) atop multiple high-rises are indicative of coordination and access that is not likely for an uncontrolled mob. The evidence points to something much more sophisticated than random violence -- as in government action.
I don’t think they are torching their own homes, since this is a xenophobic rampage. Majority of the citizens of that city are Han Chinese, something like 75% or more, I don’t know the exact figure. The angry muslims are targeting innocent Han Chinese civilians. This reminds me of the anti-Chinese riots in Indonesia by muslim mobs looking for a scapegoat for their poor economical lives, so they targeted the richer harder-working chinese. Once muslims see the real reason for their plight, their own religion, they might actually get somewhere.
