Well, Perestroika and Glasnost has been mentioned for a very long time in terms of deception of the West and the continuance of the global domination aspirations of the same...
BUT..., everyone seems to have forgotten it now.
AND..., in addition, there has risen a new “global power” that is well on its way to world-wide domination, at the present time and is about to take over and subjugate the U.S., in a mere one generation from now — guaranteed (at the rate things are going now...).

I was thinking that it's like firing on your own troops in order to confuse the enemy, but I like your metaphor better.
I said at the time that it looked exactly like a Communist trick and I turned out to be right again.
