Doubts in White House on approach to N. Korea

Though official policy is to pursue talks, some aides believe the focus should be on containment, to prevent the communist nation from selling nuclear know-how or parts.

By Paul Richter

July 14, 2009

Reporting from Washington -- American diplomatic efforts on North Korea are coming under fire within the Obama administration from officials who consider talks futile and instead want to focus on halting the regime's trade in nuclear weapons and missile equipment, U.S. officials said.

The administration's official goal has been to coax the Pyongyang government back into the six-nation disarmament talks that began in 2003.

Before the inauguration, they were reportedly about to try laundry list of appeasement actions. Now what happened? A slow learner or a hypocrite? By a hypocrite, I mean they railed at any tough approach while they were out of power, but abruptly changed their attitude once they are in power.

Free Republic (and the foreign press in Seoul and Tokyo) was far ahead on this issue, by weeks if not months!! The LA Times starts to wake up.

Better late than never. Idiots.

Try singing Kumbaya, and the ask them, “Can’t we all just get along?” That seems to be this administration’s approach to pretty much all of its more thorny foreign policy problems.

When the North Koreans have recovered from their hilarity and picked themselves up off the floor, they’ll no doubt be our new Best Buddies.

Americans really cr*pped the bed when they elected this Obama clown their president.

The Japanese press over here in Tokyo these days, Tiger, is startig to CRAWL with increasingly critical articles on Barack Obama and his foul up of North Korea. I am seeing it everywhere. Sankei Daily. Will. SAPIO. Bungei Shunju. Foresight. Sentaku. Voice. Yomiuri Daily News. Now it is starting on the TV networks as well......Really potent and accusatory stuff starting to build here. And for good reason. He is seriously jeopardizing this nation of 150 million people through his lack of plan, idiotic advisors, ignorance and naivety which the North Koreans (probaby even 25-year-old Prince Kim Jong Un) can see right through!!

"Americans really cr*pped the bed when they elected this Obama clown their president."

Japanese journalist Hidaka notes this month--translated by yours truly on FR--that the Americans were "shellshocked" (by the unprecedented poor US economy) into supporting a totally incompetent and inexperienced leader who is now in retrospect getting them--and the world--into a heap of trouble everywhere.

The specter of Japanese nuke(or scrapping Article 9) spooks Chicom. This is where the solution will come from: how Chicom perceive Japanese public reaction with regard to its own nuke.

The Chicoms don’t get spooked over the server faggotry that they both have been running for years. It probably took a new level with Letter of the two sorries.

Well as influence wains...where will the leverage come from? New Delhi...Moscow? Riyadh?

You know I really worry sometimes that both sides of the aisle (R or D) would forget that their even ever was a Taiwan Relations Act if the missiles ever start flying towards the island. : ( (and yes kinda off topic)

He got that right. Now we’re scr*wed. But royally.

The world wanted Obama and now the world is going to experience the consequences.

All that “hope and change” was half right... There's lots of change going on - and it is destroying hope wherever it goes... We have ignorant masses who think that there aren't really bad people in the world (other than conservatives) that when people act bad it is because they were provoked and need to be understood and coddled... It is the type environment that empowers the likes of Hitler. And these same foolish people also think they can take wealth from others and it will enrich themselves with little other consequence. Well it will in the short term, the very short term. In the longer term it will cost them and everyone else their standard of living making the country poorer as a whole. They have no idea how wealth is created or maintained. They see someone with it and want it without making the sacrifices required to earn it. So just pass a law for someone else to pay for their health care, their retirement, their car and their house.

Maybe you should take the whole quote from Mars Attacks: Why can't we work out our differences? Why can't we work things out? Little people, why can't we all just get along?
