Is anyone else sick and tired of listening to Republicans and Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee cower in the face of Sonia Sotomayor's sex and ethnicity? Reports out of Washington describe the Republican Senators tiptoeing ever so gingerly around Sotomayor so as not to alienate the female and Hispanic vote. What's worse, the embarrassing sideshow includes the kind of pathetic pandering many Americans have come to expect at these empty political charades.
Senator Jon Kyl, R-Arizona, for example said he expected every American to be "proud that a Hispanic woman has been nominated to sit on the Supreme Court." Senator John Cornyn, R- Texas, added: "Your nomination should make us all feel good as Americans." Conservative Senators are quivering in the face of an obviously partial and biased minority candidate just as much of the nation quivered in the presence of another minority candidate: Barack Obama.
What America needs right now is courage and mutual respect -- not empathy and sensitivity. Anyone with an ounce of dignity should be appalled by the patronizing behavior on display since the Senate confirmation hearings began. Showing empathy to a woman with a frightening history of color consciousness on the bench and in many of her personal statements may score political points with voters in some swing states, but this dubious strategy comes with a profound price tag: the degradation of American civic life.
Conservative pundits are telling us that Sonia Sotomayor's confirmation is a done deal. Even the editors of National Review advise congressional Republicans not to stonewall Sotomayor's confirmation and "expend some of the political capital" that can be used to oppose Obama's more important policies.

ugh
Ack!
I don’t care if she is a purple polka-dotted ex-Martian!
La Raza is every bit as racist an organization as the Ku Klux Klan. As a member of La Raza, Sotomayor doesn’t belong on the Supreme Court!
No, not really. I could probably take another week of it. It's a nice change of pace from the Michael Jackson death-a-thon. If the primarily white, primarily male members of the Senate Judiciary Committee are so flummoxed by a Latina, then their constituents should reconsider whether their senators are up to the task of, you know, senatoring.
After what this bunch of Fascist did to Kyl, you certainly don’t expect this group of cowards to stand up to them do you?
Oh come on ... Drudge has a link to the video of Michael burning during the Pepsi ad ... and some gross pics of his legs ,, used for IV drugs , along with a really nasty wound and photo evidence of his skin coloration/pigmentation “vitiligo” problem... Surely that is compelling news ... surely you can come back to the Michael Jackson death-a-thon prolfeed.. and I haven’t even mentioned the court battles yet to come and the children...
But seriously ,, Sotomayor should be out simply because of LaRaza and the Ricci decision but the rats have no honor ,, only a quest for power and they have it right now...
When and if we get power back we need a full on purge of stalinists in all branches and non-elected offices (state dept. etc.) complete with deportations/expulsions and criminal charges with serious consequences. How does one go about initiating impeachment proceedings against a supreme court justice?
Gee. Last time I checked, that account was at zero balance. How do you "deficit spend" political capital? And, what IS it, anyway? I have never seen a definition.
I hope he nails her to the wall.
The Man and his kids were screwed because he is white, and that was A-OK with Sotomayor. She had no problem with that.
Watching her spin the last two days has been incredible. I hope Ricci exposes her on national TV for what she is. A Puerto Rican "David Duke" in a black robe.
As stated by Princess Amidala in the The Revenge of the Sith, “So this is how liberty dies... with thunderous applause.”
