WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. John McCain said Thursday the United States must recover from the "moral failures" of human rights abuses and called for Americans to stand on the "right side" of history as a leader of the free world.

"I believe American leadership in opposition to human rights abuses, not silence, is the truest expression of our national character," McCain said in a speech to the Junior State of America, a civics education organization for high school students.

"The United States since its founding has embraced a set of moral duties, among which I believe is the obligation to respect the God-given dignity of every human being."

If McCain is right then the Taliban have the moral high ground.

No nation has done more or is doing more to reduce torture than the United States.

The United States has never had a policy of torturing people.

OUr nation will be greatly enriched and the global victims of torture will be better defended when John McCain joins most Americans in that consensus.

Pandering the incidents of Abu Ghraib and currying favor with radical statist tortures by offering apologies increases the incidence of torture and increases deaths and attacks on US service personnel.

In a word John:

No.

>>”The United States since its founding has embraced a set of moral duties, among which I believe is the obligation to respect the God-given dignity of every human being.”

But in the Obamanation, those God-given dignities don’t belong to:

The Unborn
The Rich
The Palin Family
Christians
Conservatives
White People
Small business owners

The reason we have “moral failures” as a nation is because we have no morals as a people. If we return to our traditional values - and yes, that includes God - then all our other problems will fall into place. I honestly have a lot of reservations about some of our practices. They may be necessary - that is why it is imperative to me that I have a moral and decent man - who will pray - as the leaders of my nation.-—JM

McCain is ga-ga and has been for some time. GA-GA. He needs to be taken by the hand, gently led aside and told STFU repeatedly until he understands. He is not a leader. No one cares what he thinks, and he is a loser. Oh, and that unpleasantly deranged daughter of his, too.

McCain is nuts. He knows that many of us want to torture terrorists so bad our teeth ache ~and he' like to join us but he said a lot of stupid things and is backed into a corner on the deal.

All he has to do is get down off his high horse and join the people, and he'll automatically know all the right things to say ~ but he has to shut that mouthy, nasty daughter of his up ~ maybe inflict some waterboarding, or better yet, IRON MAIDEN treatment or something.

If I have a choice between being waterboarded and having my head cut off with a dull knife, I think I'll opt for waterboarding.

Bet ya the Gitmo Jihadis prefer Gitmo to our prison system. Might be some patriotic convicts in our prisons that make their lives a lot more miserable, and they know it.

There is torture in the world. And its easy to find. Every US serviceman who is captured is routinely tortured to death by our enemies in the current war. Every single one of them.

Our people who were captured by Saddam were routinely beaten, raped, murdered.

In previous wars, Viet Nam for instance, our men were routinely tortured day after day year after year for no particular purpose. McCain and his colleagues experienced that first hand.

The Japanese routinely tortured their POWs, and murdered them, and starved them, and used them for sword practice. They died in Japanese hands by the tens of thousands.

Very few of our enemies have even lived up to the standards of a Nazis POW camp, and when you can’t even manage parity with the Nazis on human rights, you really have taken things to a new low.

Mr. McCain of all people knows what torture is, and he knows we don’t do it. And he knows our enemies do. The guy is dishonest. There is no other word for it.

You have All the Moral standing you need when someone is trying to killyou, and has been successful in killing thousands, and wants to keep doing it.....And when you are standing over the afore mentioned enemy with your foot on his Throat, you have a moral obligation to ask him where his leader is hiding, what plans are being made to kill Americans, before you pull the barrell of your handgun out of his mouth so he can speak more clearly of the plans that were interrupted by his capture.
I don’t see a problem with waterboarding if they fail to cooperate and convince.
Next issue.
