Obama pins blame on GOP for stalled health bills By Sam Youngman Posted: 07/21/09 02:16 PM [ET] President Obama sharply criticized Republicans on Tuesday for following a “familiar script” to “block healthcare reform.”

The president, seeking to prod the Democratic-controlled Congress to show significant progress on healthcare reform before the August recess, directed blame at the GOP for the stalled legislation.

Obama blasted the "familiar script" of Republicans who "have openly declared their intention to block healthcare reform."

Republicans have lambasted Democrats’ efforts to pass healthcare reform, but they have noted that with comfortable majorities in both chambers and control of the White House, Democrats have the ability to pass their legislation.

The problem for Democratic leaders is that centrist Democrats have balked at what has been proposed, threatening to reject the bills if they are brought to the House and Senate floors.

In remarks delivered at the White House Rose Garden before he was scheduled to meet with Democratic members of the Energy and Commerce Committee, Obama said, "I look forward to meeting with several members of the Congress who are working to pass health insurance reform that will bring down long-term costs, expand coverage and provide more choice."

Earlier in the day, the Energy and Commerce Committee postponed a scheduled markup until Wednesday.

That move, coupled with comments from Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) on Tuesday, has triggered widespread speculation on Capitol Hill that the House may not vote on healthcare reform before the August recess.

Hoyer told reporters, "If we get consensus, we'll move on it. If we don't get consensus, I don't think staying in session is necessarily necessary. We'll see. I'll make that decision next week."

If that's the case, the Republicans should put out their chest and be proud of what they did. Then they should say, you ain't seen nothing yet!

Every union in the country should be blasting this bill, as it will be eventually be the undoing of one of the most lucrative portions of union management - that of managing the mega benefits packages that they negotiate. Every new employee will be able to opt out of the high overhead union plans and keep their existing plans, something that’ll gut the unions in a short time.

Wait, what am I saying here? Shhh, shhh, don't tell them.

As opposed to the “familiar script” of government control over all aspects of life... yeah.

bring down long-term costs

Very different than saying "bring down the price."

I would think even the Domocrats are getting tired of being lied to. It's insulting after awhile.

Yeah, Barry, it’s all Bush’s fault, right? Hey, here’s thought, maybe the evil Dr. Cheney cast a spell over you!

Well, acutally, I don’t think the GOP deserves the credit. Its more the work of “Blue Dog” Democrats. I’m sure the usual cast of GOP RINOs like McCain, Snowe, Collins and Graham would have supported it - also Grassely and Hatch
(Hhave they done a vital signs check on these two recently? They look like they reached room temperature a few days after Frank Lautenberg.)

Reps blocking healthcare? The Dems have huge margins in the House and Senate. They can pass anything they like.

He knows the vast majority of Americans don’t know that, and he can count on the MSM to publicize his comments, which will be taken as truth by the sheeple. Most voters thought the Republicans were in control of Congress in the 2008 election, which is why they voted in so many Democrats. They hated what was going on in Washington and just assumed it was all the Republican’s fault, because that’s what the great One told them with the support of the media.

Idiots.
