President Obama backs millionaire's tax

President Barack Obama used a prime-time news conference Wednesday to urge Americans to get behind his flagging health care reform efforts in Congress, seeking to reassure an increasingly jittery public that the government can overhaul the system without jeopardizing the care most citizens currently receive.

Obama endorsed a House committee’s plan to fund part of the new program by imposing a surtax on families making over $1 million a year – but insisted he would not support any bill that helped fund the $1 trillion plan with a tax on middle-class families.

“To me, that meets my principles,” Obama said of the so-called millionaires tax, while indicating he is also open to other funding proposals. “That is not being shouldered by families that are already having a tough time.”

But Obama also indicated that he couldn’t rule out significant changes to the way that Americans currently receive health care – a major worry of some voters who fear that massive overhaul would force them to change doctors or health plans, or forego some services.

Asked about sacrifices Americans might have to make in terms of access to specialists or intensive treatment at the end of life, Obama insisted that no one would have to give up any useful medical service under the plans being debated in Congress.

Tax the hell out of all the millionaire congressmen and women. Make them broke as middle clase, then come and talk to us.

The President wants to take out his resentment on the rich and punish them for success? He should tax everything we buy and do away with income tax; we would be furthur ahead.

Unfortunately the people will probably fall for this line again. The Dems have been playing this tune since 1913 when they rammed the 16th Amendment through saying no one earning less than $200,000 (IN 1913 DOLLARS!) would EVER be taxed. And like Charlie Brown and Lucy with the football they get suckered again and again and yet again.

Yeah. I understand that he has different “values” than most Americans.

Those congress critters don’t have millionaire income, just assets.
So they will still skate on most tax increases.

What will be the Baraqqis undoing is the unemployment level.
It’s not going down any time soon, and all these new taxes are aimed at small business people where the jobs usually come from.

That is partly my point. I say tax the congress critters into the middle class. Take all their assets. Then see how eager they are to rape us.

>>> Unfortunately the people will probably fall for this line again. <<<<

I was listening to the callers on C-SPAN a few weeks ago and this issue of “tax the rich for health care” was being discussed.

It was a nonstop stream of “gimme gimme take take take” on both the Rat *and* the (alleged) Republican phone lines.

It was like rubbernecking a car wreck. Really amazing how utterly unprincipled many of our fellow citizens actually are.

He comes bouncing out like some arrogant, spoiled little child. Not the president of the United States.

When have we all had enough?

The 16th Amendment was passed by Congress in 1909 when the Republicans had a majority in both houses, although they would have needed some Democrat support in the House to get to 2/3. I don’t know what the party breakdown was in the state legislatures during the period between when Congress proposed it (July 12, 1909) and when it was ratified by enough states (Feb. 3, 1913). Taft was President but of course the President has no role in amending the Constitution here (unlike Honduras if Zelaya gets his way).

Nope.

And as for myself, I DO NOT WANT MY FELLOW AMERICANS, BE THEY MILLIONAIRES or even RICHER to HAVE TO PAY FOR MY HEALTHCARE OR MY FAMILIES.

I do NOT WANT to LIVE in an AMERICA that FORCES that kind of CRAP on ANYONE.

IT IS NOT RIGHT.

Uhbama....take your fancy suits and nasty wife and get the heck out of our White House if you cannot FIGURE out WHAT IT MEANS TO BE AN AMERICAN.
