Common Ground On Abortion: DeLauro Co-Sponsors Bill To Reduce Numbers (Embryo to Grave Govt. Care)

Though they are on opposite sides of the abortion debate, U.S. Reps. Rosa DeLauro and Tim Ryan have joined together for a measure that they say is aimed at reducing the number of abortions.

DeLauro, a Democrat from Connecticut who favors abortion rights, and Ryan, a Democrat from Ohio who describes himself as pro-life, will unveil the "Preventing Unintended Pregnancies, Reducing the Need for Abortion and Supporting Parents Act" at a Washington press conference today.

The measure aims to reduce the number of abortions in the U.S. by providing greater government support for pregnant women and their families and by expanding teen pregnancy prevention programs, among other programs.

This is not the first time DeLauro and Ryan have joined forces on this issue. They have introduced similar legislation twice since 2007.

But this year, chances for passage are stronger than in the past. The proposal shares President Barack Obama's oft-stated goal of reducing the number of abortions as well as reflecting his overall philosophy that emphasizes conciliation on the abortion debate.

"When we open our hearts and our minds to those who may not think precisely like we do or believe precisely what we do, that's when we discover at least the possibility of common ground," Obama said in a speech in May at the University of Notre Dame.

Reducing abortion...

...By giving gobs of money to Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers
...By encouraging unsafe behaviors like sex outside of marriage
...By encouraging a contraceptive mentality which is proven to lead to abortions
...By encouraging a hypersexualized culture of pornography and institutionalized impurity (see, for example, Planned Parenthood’s website for teens, or the British adolescent exercise guidelines)
...By refusing to implement proven abortion-reducing methods like women’s right to know, parental consent, pregnancy support or adoption support
...By refusing to take a tougher line enforcing mandatory reporting of child rape laws against Planned Parenthood, an admitted law-breaker (while continuing to destroy the lives of doctors, nurses, teachers and clergy who fail to pick up the phone whenever there’s a little bruise)

It’s no wonder Tim Ryan was recently kicked out of Democrats for Life. Shame on him and on DeLauro.

Comical. DeLauro is Catholic and DeLauro is past executive director of the radically pro-abortion EMILY’S LIST, the richest PAC in the nation. Meh.

Well said. I would add defunding and discouraging abstinence programs.

Yeah, I bet there are "other programs".

I usually post of pic of DeLauro on these threads but it's too early for most people's stomachs.
