DETROIT, MI - A coach who's in the Michigan Wrestling Association Hall of Fame has filed a federal lawsuit against Dearborn Public Schools and the principal of Fordson High School. Gerald Marszalek claims he was fired after 35 years because of his Christian beliefs.
Marszalek says his troubles began in 2005 when a minister lost his job as a volunteer assistant coach after introducing Muslim students to Christianity during a private off-campus wrestling camp.
Marszalek, who also is Christian, said his contract wasn't renewed in 2008 because of his religious beliefs and his association with the minister. Dearborn has a large Muslim population, and Fordson High School Principal Imad Fadlallah is described in the lawsuit as a devout Muslim.

If you would like to be added or dropped from the Michigan ping list, please freepmail me.
My in-laws are from Dearborn, my FIL owned Les’s Quality Meats, a butcher shop on Warren Road for years and years but left when none of the signs around his store were in english anymore.
This guy was my BIL’s wrestling coach, they stayed friends for years after he graduated. I sent him an email this morning when I heard about this and he was shocked that they would let him go for any reason.
He replied that religion must be behind the whole thing, it’s the only thing he could think of stupid enough to cause them letting him go. He is a big favorite of a lot of kids who went through that school.
Thanks for the post; link; ping; info.
Hooray Thomas More Law Center!
My pleasure.
