Would be interesting to know if vitamin D deficiency is a factor — British Isles, usually cloudy and even when sunny fair-skinned people don’t go out in sun much.
Excellent points. Thank you.
Nor is Florida reporting all cases. Yesterday I read an artilce that said unless you’re pregnant or in one of the other high risk groups, your doctor probably won’t even test for it. They do a fast test in the office for Influenza A , and if that’s positive, 99% chance you have swine flu. They’re saying the cost to send these samples out for swine flu confirmation is $40-$200, so they’re not doing it in most cases. The number of cases in Florida is way off.
swine flu article ping ....
I’m pinging Smokin’ Joe list & some other freepers
Please add me to your swine flu ping list. Thanks.
Thanks for the ping. There may be cultural or other factors that influence some ethnic groups over others in swine flu rates, but it will likely even out over time, with all groups equally vulnerable.
Sanctuary cities are liberal by their very nature - so they would also have larger numbers of gay citizens... and other liberal victim groups.
We've had flu before - that also killed - something like 30,000 people each year. But we've never had a flu where almost every death was reported. And that's happening.
It means there's some group that "special" to the MSM that's being hit. Also, there's been a somewhat defensive posture in the MSM - ABC news did this big thing on pregnant women - but in fact very few pregnant women have died of the flu. We'll find out in time what the story is - for now the MSM is doing a "Kennedy" on the story - "knowing lots, saying nothing"...
Smokin’ Joe please add freeper GOPJ to the freeper swine flu ping list .
You said — I am not a doctor, but would like some help trying to figure out why I can find no explanations for this disparity and surely, we are not LEGALLY allowing sick people into the country, are we?

Ummm..., I’m not sure what you think that border crossing officials are supposed to do at those border crossings... LOL...
I mean, I’ve crossed both borders (north and south) many times and I’ll guarantee you that they don’t check for sick people, if that’s what you mean. If it ever comes to a time when we actually have some action that must be taken to quarantine an area, perhaps they might order that kind of check, but I doubt it.
How is someone going to check for an illness that doesn’t show up yet in a person? Are they going to do lab tests at the border and everyone stays in a hotel until the lab results come back? :-)
So, what you’re saying just doesn’t make sense, as far as what border crossing officials are supposed to do in regards to an illness that a person has when crossing the border...
“Ummm..., Im not sure what you think that border crossing officials are supposed to do at those border crossings... LOL...”
If someone is sweating, vomiting or obviously ill, ummmmm..., you can guess they are sick...LOL....
Thanks. Now that I have a troll’s opinion I’m all set. By the way, there is really no need to address me anymore, OK? LOL..., So, what youre saying just doesnt make sense...ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm...LOL
Lots of people have been sick in California, and they aren’t even going to the doctor.
Lots of the kids from our church went to Hume Christian Camp and came home sick. One of my son’s friends had gone there a few weeks later and had swine flu, so I’m assuming the kids from our church also had it. However, the kids from our church didn’t go to the doctor. All of them had the symptoms.
States with most illegals have largest number of cases. Probably just a COINCIDENCE, HUH!
They check for sick people when you go to Asia. When my husband went, they had thermal scanners to see if anyone had a fever, and they won’t let you in if you are obviously ill.
Freeper Smokin’ Joe does the freeper swine flu ping list .
If any freeper want’s to be added to list just Smokin’ Joe know . He does an execellent job Thanks !
“States with most illegals have largest number of cases. Probably just a COINCIDENCE, HUH!”
I think so...and aside from taking the jobs Americans don’t want, they seem to be spreading the diseases Americans don’t want...I guess immigration reform might start to make sense when we are keeling over in the streets of the sanctuary cities...of course, by then, if we are lucky enough to have the EU health care model, we won’t have to wait too long to get care, we’ll be too dead to get it and we won’t mind as much...
“They check for sick people when you go to Asia. When my husband went, they had thermal scanners to see if anyone had a fever, and they wont let you in if you are obviously ill.”
I think a great many countries do screening...the leftists here won’t permit it, of course...or will deride the notion if they are incognito...
Yeah, and I’ve seen something about that in the U.K., too... but, I was talking about our north and south borders... I’ve never seen it and I’ve been crossing for a long time now... (mostly up in Canada, though)...
But, I’m not saying that they couldn’t start doing it. I just can’t see how officials can really control that, as there is a time period when no one knows if they have it and it can’t be detected. That makes it impossible to restrict, unless governments just decided to shut down borders for a month to let it die out and them open them back up again — but can’t see that happening... :-)
36k Americans will die of the normal ‘flu’ this year. As they have every single year for the past five decades. This is being hyped based on a doomsday theory is the point.
It won’t come near the mortality rate of the common flu, but we will spend billions on this fools errand anyway.
There are all sorts of factors that *might* be in play, but it will remain guesswork, because influenza is way more complicated than science has come close to figuring out.
Some of the rules.
To start with, flu epidemics in hot climates are rare, because optimal transmission by coughing and sneezing is at 40F and low humidity. The higher the temperature and humidity, the more it is reliant on hand contamination.
Because hot climate influenza is rarer, it is reasonable to assume that people who live there for many years have had less exposure to flu, and so have less resistance to flu. To make matters worse, when a “novel” flu comes around, it is much easier to transmit, because there is no “limited” immunity, so much less pathogen is needed to cause infection.
This *might* have been why H1N1 was so vehement in Mexico, but has so far been milder in the US. But lots of other rules apply.
Influenza spreads in an erratic manner, comparable to a brush fire, which may unpredictably pass around either side of an area, leaving it untouched. It is equally unpredictable in virulence, with widely varying mortality.
Typically, an infected person would only infect between 1 and 3 other people. However, there are some people who spread the disease to many other people, like Typhoid Mary. They are called “super carriers”, and have only recently been discovered as a phenomenon, so little is known about how they unintentionally do this. Yet other people act as “fire breaks”, not only not spreading the disease to others, but preventing other people from spreading the disease.
So there is a cultural element as well. It was noted in the great plagues in past that some people would flock to churches to pray against the disease, which would wipe out whole congregations.
Fortunately, knowledge about hygiene helps people avoid disease today at an individual level, which vastly improves odds against catching most infectious diseases.
I’ve been taking Vitamin D supplement since reading about 1918 pandemic- cheap insurance. Also extra B complex and C
Also dosing the kids with Vit D.
We’ve also got a lot of other supplements onhand, recommended by some researchers- including Resveratrol which I started daily. If the worst happens, access to medical care may be dicy
This article gave me some ideas
